Beautifully renovated hotel. Room was luxurious and spotlessly clean. Food was of a good standard and staff were very helpful. Leisure complex was very good . Could not fault this hotel.
we enjoyed our stay in hotel with its lovely views of the city of cork staff very friendly room lovely and clean and bed very comfortable regards carmel four stares
Really enjoyed our stay in Montenotte Hotel, loved the renovation work since our last visit, beautiful furnishings all over. Checking in and out was hassle free, very pleasant and welcoming staff, the food was A1, unbelievable choice and selections....gorgeous, we only stayed one night and didn't get time to go the leisure centre but hopefully next time. Looking forward to a longer stay next time.
Staff were lovely and friendly. The food was delicious, breakfast was plentiful and there was a great selection for dinner. The hotels location is so central to the city centre. The only downfall I would have is that it was like a maze trying to get to our bedroom. We spent another 10 mins looking for the leisure centre as it was very badly signed. The dressing rooms in the leisure centre was like an igloo and there was only one exit out of the pool so if you wanted to go into the steam room or sauna you had to go back to the top and walk back down to the end- I was there with my mother in law who has a bad hip and it was very inconvenient for her
Stayed for one night and really enjoyed our stay. Receptionist was very helpful at check in. The hotel is looking fantastic after recent renovations. The room was great, very comfortable. Great selection for breakfast. Overall couldn't ask for more. Well done all at the Montenotte!
Cannot Fault, Room was lovely very clean, Dinner was great, break fast was great.. And a big shout out to waiter Daniel.. Very pleasat young man who went over and beyond to help us... All in all a very good stay thanks
My apologies I didnt make my friday night stay I got some very sad news as I was about to depart that morning. My Mother had died.
This is a very good and relaxing hotel from a customer service and facilities perspective. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Lovely hotel, excellent staff, beautiful breakfast
It was only for one night but really enjoyed our stay, loved the new decor of the rooms and the staff were very efficient friendly. Looking forward to going again.
We recently spent 1 night at the hotel with our 2 small kids. Family room was clean & spacious. Kids playroom for Easter was great & the staff were lovely. Dinner service in the bar was slow but we did get a complimentary drink because of this so that was a nice gesture. Food was fine. Breakfast let the hotel down, there were only two staff members for the busy dining room. People were wondering around looking for clean tables and had to ask for the basics like butter, milk etc. Choice of hot food could have been larger. Cutlery & plates could have been cleaner. All in all, a nice hotel for a night away. Refurbishments are taking place but rooms are nicely finished. Staff are all very friendly.
We stayed in this hotel on Tues night March 29th. Our room was lovely, warm and spotlessly clean but I hate to say that our breakfast was the worst hotel breakfast we ever had. There was 3 young staff on and no manager. Breakfast was available up to 10 am and we arrived in the breakfast room at 915am. There was no clean table available and most tables had not been cleared. When a waitress set a table for us, She didn't give us all our cutlery and forgot milk. There were no glasses or bowls left on the buffet table and no rolls or pastries left at the bread section. At one stage when I got up to ask for milk there was no staff at all to be seen. I went around to several tables before I found 2 jugs with just some milk in each. Very disappointing. I had paid my bill in full on arrival the previous evening, if I hadn't done so I wouldn't have paid for this service,
We enjoyed our recent stay in Montenotte. Staff friendly great athmosphere and excellent food. Best wishes to all for 2016
Very friendly courteous staff from reception through to restaurant. Room was perfect giving the price and they provided a cot for our young lad. Not sure if it merits a 4 star but it ticked all the boxes for us.
I recently spent a weekend in this Hotel on a break to Cork, This is a lovely Hotel, Our room was at the back which had beautiful views over the river , We had breakfast on both mornings, food was good with a good selection to choose from. The lift is on the first floor, so to get to your room u had to go up a staircase from reception, the staircase did have a chairlift but this could prove a little awkward if you had a baby buggy or heavy suitcases. However the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room had three beds in it, one double and two singles, however the double had seen better days and was not very comfortable. The Hotel is well situated with easy access to the city and thanks to Lidl breaks was extremely good value for money, I would recommend this Hotel,
Fantastic place to stay, could not fault it.
Lovely stay for my Finaces birthday. Staff were all lovelly especially Emma on reception made a special efort to mention it at check in with a little suprirse waiting in the room to make him feel extra special. Fantastic dinner on Friday evening, Lovely selection of food at brealfast. Overall a wonderful stay and would hghly recommend hotel to visitors.
Our two night stay in The Best Western Montenotte Hotel was lovely & relaxing, staff were very friendly & professional, rooms were basic but very clean and the food was exceptional. Lovely views over the city and not far from the town centre.
Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, family room had two large queen beds. The breakfast was lovely and lots of it and they do the best pizza I've ever had outside of Italy. The only down side was the leisure doesn't have direct access from the hotel and it was poorly lit. Very enjoyable stay and would return,
Couple in 20's stayed in March 2014. Had an excellent time. One night stay for two, with breakfast and evening meal. The food was fantastic. Huge portion size, couldn't ask for more. Excellent service upon arrival, at dinner, in the bar and in general throughout our stay. Close to city centre, taxis only €6-8 between two people. Lovely bar down the hill that had entertainment on the Saturday night. Will recommend to anyone. Can't wait to go back again.
my stay was very enjoyable, staff very good, polite, rooms very clean and spacious, food excellent.great value.will stay again
A nice hotel very friendly staff and good service for dinner. Rooms good not brilliant a bit basic but value for the money we paid we done the 99 euro dinner and B&B very good value.
I SENT A RAVE REVIEW 2 DAYS AGO!!
My teenage niece and I recently stayed in this hotel for a weekend - B & B and a twin-bedded room. We just loved our stay here! It was excellent value for money and we intend to return in the near future. Our room and the entire Hotel was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. the swimming pool and gym were also excellent. The breakfasts was plentiful, hot and vary tasty. I have traveled a great deal and have stayed in many hotels -both 5 star luxury and basic no stars; however, the staff in the Montenotte Hotel were outstanding - all members of staff that we encountered (on reception, housekeeping, the gym/pool, dining/breakfast room etc.) were warm, polite, professional, friendly and informative - this is the absolute distinctive aspect of this Hotel and is to be commended. I intend to strongly recommend this Lidl Break scheme to all my family and friends.
My wife and i spent 3 days in best western montenotte, this was our 3rd visit and we really enjoyed our stay, hotel was spotlessly clean with friendly and helpful staff as usual,we will return again.lidl breaks are fantastic value. pj
Have just returned from a 3 night New Year break in this hotel. Room was clean and warm, breakfast was not warm I think it had all been cooked the night before! My husband and I decided to stay in the hotel bar for New Years Eve we were very disappointed with the entertainment and the festivities. We had 2 youths whom were the dj's for the night who were very intoxicated with alcohol. The hotel itself did not give out any novelty hats or blowers to bring in the New Year, which we were very surprised as it is supposed to be a 4 star Hotel. I sent my husband to the bar to buy a pkt of peanuts, they had none, no savories or crisp to be bought. Not even a complimentary glass of champagne to bring in 2014. Very disappointing and we will not be returning or recommending this Hotel to our friends or family.
Excellent staff, great value for money.
When we were tried to book in we were told our room was not ready, this was fine, as we went into the bar and had some lunch, we then checked in and when we went up to our room, we were told by house keeping the room was still not ready, so we had to wait another 30 minutes on top of the 40 mins or so we had previously waited. The room was clean, but it could do with updating. The best thing about the hotel was the girl on reception, she was extremly friendly. The meal we had that night was very tastie too, and the male waiter that servered us was extremly plesant and helpful to us. The best thing about the hotel is the staff, the pool could do with a clean, very dirty on the bottom of the pool, looks like it hasnt been done in a while, also the sauna wasnt working. there are just little jobs that could be fixed in the swimming pool, that wouldnt cost too much money to fix, such as tiling, that would make the experiance more enjoyable. I probably would stay there again,as the staff were very nice and the food was quite good.
A truly brilliant place to stay. Staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel really welcome. Breakfast buffet is amazing with a lot of choices and variety. Check out time at 12 pm is also very nice. Highly recommend the hotel and will stay there again next time
HAD A WONDERFUL STAY IN THE BEST WESTERN HOTEL AS ALWAYS. GREETED BY THE LOVELY KASIA, STAFF EXCEPTIONALLY NICE, FOOD WONDERFUL, AND REASONABLE PRICED, WOULD RECOMMEND 100%, CATHY O'BRIEN DUBLIN.
Our Bargain Break was extremely good value. The hotel's location above Cork gives it a panoramic view over the city, while town is also eminently walkable (approx 15 min walk). Dinner was included in our deal on one night and it was beautiful to look out over the lights of Cork while eating the great food. A good standard of food overall including breakfast - (although no egg cups or comprehension of a soft boiled egg.) The breakfast room staff person was not the most helpful, but the desk staff were super friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are standard hotel with en-suite, TV, ironing board and iron, tea making facilities and self-regulating radiators, but the addition of the leisure centre with mini gym, pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna plus the quality restaurant give the hotel it's fourth star.
A lovely hotel, really enjoyed our stay, only problem was the breakfast buffet was only warm not hot!
We stayed here recently on a Christmas shopping trip. Rooms are clean with all amenities. Bar food is excellent. Staff are very helpful. It is a little outside the city centre but a taxi was €10 between four of us. B&B was €78 for two which was great value, we did not mind spending the extra couple of euro on taxi fares. I can recommend the Montenotte Special cocktail in the bar too! Would definitely consider returning next year for the annual shopping trip.
Really enjoyed our break in Best Western Montenotte. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful & the food was exceptionally good.
excellent hotel. really enjoyed our stay, very friendly and welcoming staff. would definatly will stay again
Great relaxing stay. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly. Would stay here again
Staff gave 5 star service I am nearly full term on my first pregnancy and their offer to upgrade us because of this was much appreciated. The rooms were spotless and an issue with the tv was sorted out with no fuss. The breakfast was disappointing but the views in the restaurant certainly provided a great accompaniment to it. We didn't feel the facilities themselves were four star given other breaks we have taken in Ireland but the service was definitely excelłent.
The hotel was lovely, but our room was only 2/3 star. Also there was a teen disco on and our room was beside the car park so was noisy until around 12.30 on a Tuesday night. Staff were all very nice except I just mentioned the noise to the receptionist on check out AFTER we paid to ensure she knew we were not looking for a discount. I was very surprised at how rude she was. Wouldn't stay again .
Very comfortable clean rooms, fabulous food, very friendly helpful staff, will definitely stay here again.
Lovely hotel with beautiful views of the city from the bar and restaurant windows. Clean, comfortable and modern room - although I think they are renovating rooms in stages so not all rooms would be modernised. Our room was tidy enough size-wise, but was adequate for 2 of us. When we checked into the hotel, as it was for only one night, the receptionist asked if we were sightseeing in the area and we said it was our wedding anniversary. She offered to send us a complimentary bottle of prosecco to our room or we could have with our dinner in the restaurant, so we opted for the dinner option. We had a drink of very nice wine at the bar before our meal and the waitress in the restaurant offered to give us a bottle of that wine instead of the prosecco. We were very chuffed with the way we were treated by all staff. The leisure centre is in need of an overhaul alright - ceiling paint over the swimming pool is peeling badly, the ladder in the pool is coming away from it's achor point (dangerous!) and there is a lot of rusty metal in a lot of the pool area. The changing rooms could also do with a facelift - tatty lockers, no locks on them (!) and no shower gel or other toiletries in the shower area, unlike other 4* hotels that we have stayed in. Overall, I would recomment this hotel.
In all of the hotels we have stayed in Cork...the Montenotte is by far the friendliest of them all. Highly recommend it.
The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The food was value for money and fresh.
I would say more 3 star than 4. Staff very helpful and friendly. Dining room needs a make over/clean up urgently.
A very nice hotel, the staff really made it for me and my family, very friendly and kind.
The food in the hotel was brilliant and the staff were particularly friendly and helpful.
Would really recommend this hotel. Friendly staff, Comfy rooms, nice leisure centre, Great selection at breakfast and only a few minutes drive from the city centre! Great value through Lidl Breaks- would book again!
A lovely clean hotel, and friendly staff. Thanks for the mugs, Dara.
Both my wife and I stayed in the Best Western on the 8th of June 2013. First impressions were very good. We arrived at the hotel at roughly 13:20 and our room was not ready. The receptionist staff were really nice and helpful so we decided to go for something to eat in the restaurant while our room was prepared. The restaurant décor was very impressive and the area was spotless clean. We ordered a sandwich each and a plate of chicken wings. The chicken wings were soaked in some orangey vinegret and tasted horrible. My beef sandwich was not much better either. The meat was over cooked and I ended up with the fatty corner of the joint on my bread. We booked in and went to our room. The room was small but very clean. We went down to the bar and had a few drinks. The drinks were a little pricey but you would expect this from a hotel. The staff were really nice again and the pint was really creamy. The views from the bar are beautiful. That night we found it very hard to sleep. The mattress was very hard. It was like sleeping on a rock. During the night the power went and my wife awoke to find someone entering the room with a candle. She screamed to wake me and they ran from the room. The breakfast the next morning was a buffet and looked and smelled very tasty but ended up to be horrible. The fry was tasteless and one of my eggs was raw on top. This put me right off and I ended up eating cereal. I found the hotel to be spotless clean and the staff were really nice but the food was horrible and the bed really uncomfortable. Security needs to be improved upon too. Although I had a nice time I wouldn`t stay in the hotel again.
I had booked a room with two beds but they gave me a room with one. As soon as I walked into the room I called the reception and they immediately gave me a realy nice room with two beds overlooking the city. My sister and I really enjoyed staying there. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
I stayed with my husband and grandchild for two nights and we all enjoyed it would recommend it to people and will definely be back
This hotel was excellent value for money. Really enjoyed the break away. Food was fabulous , staff very friendly and facilities were great. Only reason not giving 5 stars is only because breakfast wasn't delicious, was only ok. Would recommend this in Cork City.
Excellent value for money. Staff very friendly, breakfast great. Will be back
Myself and my sister booked for two nights with some friends from Australia... Staff were very helpful (especially Tara in the bar ) the room my sister stayed in was a bit grotty there was a large stain on the carpet beside the bed.... the bottom of the beds had the lining trailing on the floor.... Very very noisey at night children running around the corridors late afternoon being very loud.... so overall while very good value with Lydl, I don't think I would return
Had a fantastic experience in Montenotte Hotel, Staff were so polite and helpful, Food was great but i did think the Pints of beer were a bit expensive..
We stated for two nights in a twin room last weekend. Can't fault the hotel or the staff, comfortable, clean, very friendly. Food was very nice, somewhat limited menu but what we ordered was very tasty. All in all we really enjoyed our stay, good value and good service.
Overall the experience at the Montenotte was lovely I couldn't fault the rooms or the staff. The only let down was the policy to allow kids run riot in the reception area, on the top of the stairs and in the bar area late at night. On the Friday night it wasn't so bad but on the Saturday we left mid morning to go do some shopping and we drove around cork sightseeing., we arrived back at the hotel about 4.30 to watch some football the bar area was busy due to the communion parties going but the running around & noise of the kids disturbed us so much and we left to continue watching the game in our room. We decided against eating dinner there which was disappointing as that was the plan for the evening. We arrived back from Dinner about 10pm and the noise level and kids running around even at that hour was bad, my mother and my aunt left to go to bed early as the bar area was loud. As a parent myself who had my 5 year old daughter with me I have to say it's not the hotel's responsilbility to babysit the kids left unattended by their parents who are socializing but they should put in some guidlines to protect themselves...a kids club for residents would be ideal as it would allow other residents to enjoy their stay more. Regards Lisia
Stayed for 1 night on Saturday 11th May 2013, truly great value on the Lidl breaks website. The rooms are very modern, plenty of room, loved using the gym and the swimming pool. If I had 1 comment it would be that in the gym area if there were small notices near or on each piece of equipment on how to use them that would be very helpful for those of us who do not use a gym regularly. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was a fine feast and the staff on Reception and in the Dining Room were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
My wife and I visited the Montenotte Hotel during the recent bank holiday weekend. The location of the hotel was excellent though parking was something of a problem; no doubt this was due to the extremely busy time we were there. The room was more or less standard with a partial view of the river. The bed, however, was shockingly bad and was a major factor in our deciding to cut our stay short. No sound could be heard from the entertainment end of the hotel but the corridors were extremely noisy. I did not appreciate having extremely restricted access to wifi unless I was willing to pay a 6 euro charge. Wifi access should simply be a standard part of the room rental package, as is electricity and water. The breakfast was what one would expect from a hotel of this calibre, good enough without being in any way exceptional. The dining room was pleasant with excellent views over the river. The music at breakfast (who needs it?) was intrusive but the staff lowered the volume at my request. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating.
To all who wish to visit Cork City I would recommend the BEST WESTERN MONTENOTTE. Comfortable rooms, plenty of free parking in hotel grounds, use of the jym, super breakfast and great value. I have stayed there on several occasions and I would not even consider staying anywhere else while visiting Cork.
Lovely staff. More 3 star than 4. No free wifi in bedrooms, pay option €6 per day. It is available in general areas. Only 2 sockets in bedroom. Breakfast OK, not great.
The hotel is comforable.... definately not a 3* star. Dinner is ltd and bfast is really good. Very noisy at night especially on 1st floor. Ok 'ish to get into city by walking 20 mins
Hotel was very nice but the best part was the staff. I found them very friendly and helpful.
It was ok, nothing special but nothing bad. Rooms were nice and spacious and very quiet, slept great. There was a wedding there one of the days which meant parking was very tight and breakfast was a bit chaotic. About a 15 minute walk downhill into town (weather permitting), other wise about 7euro in a taxi. Some parts of the hotel badly need a clean and facelift. The leisure centre was grand, warm pool all at the one depth of about 1.4m
hotel very clean staff most welcoming-would definately recommended to family and friends
Enjoyed our stay. Nice staff, nice clean rooms, general hotel areas very pleasant and clean. Food seemed fresh and good quality produce, just lacking in imagination. Vegetables always seemed to be undercooked cauliflower. Thanks for all, we'll be back.
Location on a hill overlooking the city. A fair walk from city centre on the way back as it is uphill. Rooms reasonable but television reception terrible (remember the snowy days of analogue). Even after changing the monitor reception was still terrible. Cheap brand and not digital. Breakfast OK. Leisure facilities good but why do you have to go up/down a stairs to get to the pool? This could be dangerous as you could slip on the stairs if they were wet.
The price was good but they lost 1 star in the rating because the hotels 4 star rating was misleading, the room felt old. The beds and bathroom/shower was what you'd expect from a 3 star hotel. They lost the second star in my rating due to the service at breakfast. We were almost finish eating (buffet style/help yourself breakfast) before we could finally get the attention of waiting staff to get tea/coffee and toast. After waiting 15 mins for tea/coffee after ordering it, I asked a different person (one of the ladies from reception, who was around the restaurant), we got our tea and coffee imediately. The restaurant was not busy and left the restaurant unhappy and in turn had our dinner else where that evening. The saving grace in this hotel were the reception staff and the staff in the leisure centre. Very helpfull and courteous.
Stayed 2 nights, 22nd and 23rd February 2013, twin room. Very clean and comfortable. Staff friendly. Surprised to see that hotel advertised as recently refurbished as it looked in need of a refurbishment! All the fire doors were wedged open at all times even though they had a notice on them to be kept closed in case of fire, it seems to be hotel policy which is a bit disconcerting to say the least. Overall though it was good value for the money and only a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Teresa, Dublin
we stayed for 3 nights staff friendly, hotel clean ,but breakfast very disappointing as it was very disorganised.
My stay in the hotel was fantastic. No complaints whatsoever. The service in the restaurant was exceptional. The restaurant manager is extremely welcoming and highly efficient. Overall the service in the restaurant has dramatically improved since my last stay. Compliments also to the reception staff who were very friendly and altogether very helpful.
Stayed in the Montenotte Hotel< Cork from Thurs 24th Jan - Sat 26th January 2013. Out stay was pleasant and the staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a bumpy area of carpet which would need to be sorted before it causes an accident. The room was nice with plenty of space but was a long distance from the reception area, if like us there was difficulty with walking any distance I would suggest asking for a room near to the reception. We had dinner one evening and the food was plentiful, well served and good value. The one problem we had was that the breakfast, which was buffet style appeared to be lying for a long time and was very dried up. We didn't bother going for breakfast the second morning. All in all a pleasant stay with a couple of issues to be sorted but I would stay again although I don't accept a four star rating, I think three at a push.
We recently stayed 3 nights at the Montenotte, We had a wonderful time, the staff were more than helpful and the food was amazing! We will definitely be back again. Kavanagh
My husband and myself stayed one night, Mon 14th Jan 13. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Our room on the third floor was just ok ,clean with a comfortable bed, but dull and smallish. The dining room where we had our evening meal was disappointing. Though the view of the Cork city lights was nice, the dining-room itself was drab and too dimly lit(a couple of the ceiling lights needed replacing) The tables were too squashed together, unnecessary on that evening at any rate as we were the only diners at the time we were there. The table itself was a bit small for comfort and too near the adjoining table, which would have been more of a problem had there been people dining on each side of us. There was not a sense of cosiness about the room, it felt more like a passage way. All I can say that is good about the dinner was that my dessert (bread pudding) was very nice. The leisure centre was good. We enjoyed the pool and sauna. I think the Management could easily maintain the hotel's 4 star rating with a little bit more attention to detail.
Have to say was really disappointed with this hotel. Upon arrival the reception area is carpeted and this is just in k heap. Humps and bumps alt over. The receptionist was scruffy looking. We were given our room key and our room turned out to be in the basement with a wall for view. There was a damp musty smell in the room. Also our view directly outside was two empty cigarette boxes and numerous butts. We ate in the hotel 'restaurant' that evening and was again dismayed. Seating was filthy. Foreign member of staff served up with open cuffs so that everytime she placed something on our table her sleeves trailed in it. She also then proceeded to seat another couple at a table cm's away from us. The restaurant was not busy and this was unnecessary. Have stayed in spainish point in a fab hotel from your site but this stay was very disappointing. Breakfast wasalso a joke. No way this is four star.
Hi Really enjoyed our stay in Montenotte Hotel in Cork Staff were very pleasant , nothing was too much trouble , went New Years eve and had a great time Leisure Centre was also really nice , All in all a good Time had by all
everything about my stay was top class
Tiles in bathroom were loose & a lot of grout had been worn away...bed wasn't the most comfortable but these are minor things as room was spotless...the staff were very friendly and the food was absolutely delicious...would definitely return :)
Best Western Montenotte Cork, was top class, great friendly staff,breakfast/dinner/drinks and service was perfect, well worth a stay when in Cork and price is not rip off, will be calling again.
Clean rooms, professional and friendly staff, nice leisure facilities, great food. Would definitely stay again!
stayed on the 1st dec,bed breakfast & evening meal, good all round hotel will stay again
My husband and I, together with our 16 month old son spent 3 nights in the Montenotte Hotel recently. We really enjoyed our stay, the staff couldn't have been nicer and our son loved all the attention from them. There is a lovely leisure centre and pool which we made great use of. The food in the restaurant was very good with a decent kiddies menu. Rooms were good, with plenty of space for the travel cot which was provided with a good matress in it (better than I've seen before). The only negative comment I have is that we availed of the baby sitting service on one night and it cost 15 euro per hour! This is astronomical and way mor expensive than any other hotel we have stayed in. Overall, we had a lovely stay and I would recommend the hotel.
Very friendly staff, great value for money,
Lovely food. Nice rooms. Very friendly staff though a small language barrier with some.
Lovely hotel, hassle free, very clean and staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. Beautiful bar with relaxing atmosphere and the food was plentiful, well presented and of a high satisfying standard. Fantastic view of the city but the trees could do with a trim. No problem recommending this hotel to friends.
Relly enjoyed our stay here, staff were very friendly and the food was top class, looking forward to booking again
We Statyed at the Montenote hotel through the lidl breaks on the thurs night of the October Mid term break - It was fine but the service was very bad when we had our meal - now the restuarant was not packed out but it seemed that the hotel were understaffed! In saying that I couldn't fault the politeness of the staff. The waitress was run off her feet all night. Then when we got our meal one of them we had to return as it was supposed to be lamb chops but it was just like a lump of fat and everyone else was finished the meal by the time the replacement meal was sent out! Also we went there with the idea that it would be suitable for children and when you have to sit and wait for a meal to be served for so long - it doesn't really work with young kids as they do not understand. Don't think I would be running back there again in a hurry...
Had a lovely stay, the hotel room was clean and catered for all our needs. The staff were friendly and very helpful and I would stay there again. It was a trouble free and very pleasant experience. Thanks again.
We stayed in the Montenotte Hotel for 3 nights the rooms were clean, staff very friendly and had everything we needed, enjoyed the breakfast also, would stay here again next time we visit Cork....
We stayed on a Saturday to a Tuesday. The Hotel itself is a little outside of the city but is only a 15 min walk. The staff are extremely friendly, every morning we were greeted nicely by the receptionist and each time we returned from our days about town they always asked how your day was, it was something small but made you feel welcome every time you arrived. We had booked a double bed room and the room was huge. Very spacious, wardrobes for your clothes, the bed was very comfortable - if I had one complaint it would be that the shower seems to have been the shower that would have been installed when the hotel opened, not very powerful and just not that great. Otherwise the rooms were perfect. We tried the restaurant on our last night in the Hotel, we actually sat in the bar and had the restaurant menu. To say the food was amazing would be an understatement. We visited several restaurants while in Cork but the food in the Hotel was up there with some of the better restaurants we would have tried. Myself and my girlfriend have stayed in several hotels on weekend breaks in both Ireland and abroad over the last few years and I can quite honestly say that the restaurant in this Hotel has served us the best food we have eaten in any Hotel. Once again the waitress and bar staff were very friendly and looked after us. If I were visiting Cork again, I would stay in this Hotel and would strongly recommend it to anyone visiting Cork also. The price was very reasonable and we definitely got value for our money.
What a lovely hotel! The view is stunning, the staff brilliant and the rooms wonderful. We definitely would return.
This hotel is just as it is advertised. The staff are capable and friendly. The rooms are standard hotel rooms, if anything, a little on the small side but have all mod cons. The location is perfectly central and a small walk/drive from most attractions. There is a surprisingly spectacular view from the hotel's bar and restaurant. I would recommend this hotel to all travelers.
On our arrival we were met by a lovely receptionist.....I can't remember her name (a young girl with dark hair) but she was very pleasant and friendly. On our first night there we found the room extremely hot, too hot to sleep but having rang reception were promised a fan and true to their word, it was delivered to the room in minutes. There is a very convenient bus stop a couple of minutes walk from the hotel which provides a regular service directly into the city center. It is equally both accessible and reasonable. The breakfast was all you could possibly want for the start of the day and it was nicely presented not to mention very tasty. There is a lovely restaurant and a nice leisure center in the hotel. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.
We had a fantastic mini break in The Montenotte Hotel. We are a young family of 4, had a great family room for our stay & the hotel catered for all of our needs. The facilities & staff in the hotel were fantastic & we would happily return.
Hotel was lovely, for the price it was very good value. Room was adequate nothing special but clean, comfortable and functional . The meals were lovely we had Dinner on the Saturday night I could not fault it...it was as good as you will get anywhere. The Leisure centre was nice, had all you would want. ... though the changing room were cramped and could do with a revamp. The location was good for getting in and out of the city.. the only gripe was parking in the hotel is extremely tight.... don't know if you can change it due to the terrain as the hotel is built on the side of a hill. The best part of the hotel was the Staff .. very jolly, approchable and friendly. Would definitely stay there again. James, Galway
lovely hotel with friendly staff. would definatly stay again, nice down hill walk to the city. only complaint is the heat in the room as we were stayin by the leisure centre part of the hotel, otherwise the food and stay in general was enjoyable.
Certainly not 4 star, 3 star maybe. Corridors especially are dull and carpet needs to be replaced. Room was very hot and not possible to open window beyond a few inches. My mother found it very difficult to access room on 3rd floor as lift is miles away from reception. Leisure Centre was excellent. Breakfast just ok, staff under pressure at a very busy wk end. Location ideal for visting Cobh, Kinsale etc.
When we arrived we were given a double room instead of the family room we had booked. We notified reception who organised for another bed to be put into our room. The room was not big enough to accommodate this additional bed and we complained to reception. They told us that as the hotel was fully booked they could do nothing more for us until the next day. We spent a very uncomfortable night in very cramped conditions. The following day we were moved to a more suitable room. On the Saturday evening, there was a wedding on in the hotel. The wedding party took over the bar area completely from early afternoon until about 7.30pm which meant that hotel residents could not use the bar at all. We spent over an hour sitting in the lobby waiting to get in to the bar so as we could get something to eat. I complained at reception but the receptionist was indifferent and didn't really want to know. We eventually had to go in to the restaurant which we didn't really want to do. Later on that night when we were trying to sleep the noise coming from the wedding function room was unreal, followed then at about 4am by people running up and down the corridor outside banging doors and screaming at the top of their voices. We figured that the 4am noise was caused by the various hen and stag parties that we had seen check in earlier when we were sitting in the lobby waiting to get in to bar. All in all not a very family friendly experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was fine the only negative I have about is the rooms were very very warm hard to sleep at night. We had our 6 year old daughter with us and it was a pity that there wasn't more activities for children here as the pool was out of action one of the days. Overall we had a lovely stay and would go back
Phil from Cavan We stayed at the Montenotte for a week. We found it clean, comfortable and the staff extremely friendly. Breakfast was good and plentyfull. The bar menu was excellent so we ate there every evening. It is a quiet area yet only 15 minutes walk to Patricks St. I would certainly consider staying there again if i was to return to cork.
We had a very good stay in this hotel. The staff were extremely hard working and solicitous. They dealt with all our queries and requests quickly and efficiently. We were given a generous room arrangement. We made ample use of the leisure facilities, which were very good, and we ate in the hotel one night because we were too tired to go out, and we were all quite satisfied with the food. The breakfast was substantial, and while it way typical hotel fare (except the scrambled eggs, which were really exemplary) it allowed us to 'march' through the rest of the day without needing another break. Internet access had to be paid for separately but it was quite reasonable, and very quick. One additional thing worth mentioning: a friend of ours crashed on the way to meet us and pick up her nephew, who we'd given a lift to. Since they had to go to hospital to be checked out, we brought him with us to the hotel. The hotel very kindly let him go with us for a swim at no extra cost, and he stayed with us for a few hours until he could be picked up and was made to feel at home. The staff were very thoughtful in this regard and it was just what we needed at that time. Altogether, I would highly recommend the hotel. It's in a fantastic spot, it's easily accessible (and very easy to leave Cork from, with expert instructions from staff via our children!), convenient for the city and the university, has all the comforts you could need, and is excellent value for money. Thanks to all.
I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, we were very disappointed, we stayed 6 nights at the hotel 1st night soiled bath towel in bathroom, 2nd day no housekeeping of the room had to go to front desk and ask for clean towels and cups in the room. They did offer another room but I said no just wanted the clean towels and cups. The rest of the week went fine till the last day before we left no housekeeping again. I did say this at desk again and go clean towels and cup up to the room, but was made to feel my Management that this was some how my own fault. It spoiled what could have been a lovely stay, would never go back.
While this hotel was clean and comfortable I would not return there for a family break as the hotel does not really cater for families. The pool does not allow children in until after 10am and having a 10 month old who rises at 6.30am I had planned on bringing her swimming in the mornings however I was not able to do this in the Montenotte Hotel. Also there was a wedding in the hotel on one of the evenings and staff in the bar grill was hard to find and very slow. We could not find staff to order desert or pay for our meal.
July 2012 We stayed in the Montenotte Hotel for four nights mid week. We got a good deal with Lidl breaks. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had dinner on our first night and we both had a lovely meal and felt it was very reasonable. The staff in the restaurent were very friendly. We had a car with us so we found the short trip to town grand but if we had to walk up and down the hill it might be a different story. Breakfast was lovely but a varied menu would make it perfect, e.g. omellettes, pancakes, more cereals etc.. Parking can be limited at night time. Overall, we had a great stay in the Montenotte Hotel and would stay in it again when we return to Cork. We would also recommend this hotel to our friends and family.
very good location very friendly staff and very helpfull
Great to have local people that know the area working through out the hotel.
Just returned from a 3 night mid-week stay at this hotel. Water in shower was extremely hot and could not be fixed however, we were moved to the Presidential Suite for remaining 2 nights which more than made up for the inconvenience. Staff were courteous and very helpful. No issue with breakfast, food was plentiful and we were asked several times if we required anything additional. Gym, pool etc was very clean. The walk into Cork city was not a problem as it was down hillI, the walk up was steep but manageable. There is a bus stop close to the hotel or a taxi is approx €7. I would definately stay here again.
I was not happy with the hotel as I felt they did not carter to children. The staff were not very friendly and that is the first thing I look for. The pool was like a converted garage and water was freezing. As for the changing rooms I nearly broke my neck with the amount of water on the floor and I had to carry my son who is almost three as he did the same twice! Very very disappointed. Would not recommend to anyone. No STAR RATING
Nice hotel not a 4 star. Rubbish left out in corridors. No free wifi. We have stayed in this hotel a couple of times as always got it at a reasonable rate and each time we were left dissappointed with the breakfast service it was like feeding time at the zoo, the staff quite rude and we had to look for everything ourselves, plates, cups, milk, water etc. Food itself a bit dull & quiet basic, overall dissappointing. However apart for the breakfast I would book this hotel again for the location, free parking and a mainly a good rate.
Cannot understand how this hotel is a four star rating. Nothing about it lends you to think this should be the status. It is a basic 3 star hotel. Staff are friendly but in general the service is not good. Breakfast when we stayed there was a joke. Shortage of milk, juices and places to sit. We ended up cleaning our own table and setting it up for ourselves. Rooms are basic not dirty but certainly not extremely clean.
Our stay at this hotel was very comfortable i.e. the bar is very cosy having lovely soft chairs/couches to relax into and rooms/beds were very comfortable and clean. The seating in the balcony adjacent to the bar was also a lovely extra particularly in fine weather and also at night time looking out at the wonderful view of the city. Staff in the reception, bar and evening restaurant staff were excellent at their job - very friendly, welcoming and helpful. However, some of the breakfast restaurant staff were not so friendly and not attentive. Bar food and evening restaurant dining was very good, well presented and tasty. Breakfast dining was lacking a little in comparison but ok. The leisure facilities are very good - lovely pool, steam room and sauna and the gjm is good too - staff attentive and friendly here too. Overall we had a lovely stay, relaxing and enjoyable and in particular very good value for money with regard to cost. Small improvements made to service and food quality at breakfast would make it a 'perfect' stay.
A welcoming reception and a spacious clean room. Enjoyed breakfast buffet style.
We stayed here for 2 nights on the dinner B&B offer for the June Bank Holiday 2012, the staff are so friendly and make a real effort to make you feel welcome. The views down to the city from the dining room and bar are lovely overlooking the river. Our room was at the front of the hotel facing the car park so no views. The rooms while clean are a little dated looking and quite dark we were in room 347 at the very very far end of the hotel. The Leisure facilities are a great asset to the hotel. The Dinner starters and mains were beautiful plenty of choice; however we were not impressed with the desert. The pavlova that my husband had on the 1st night was not quite pavlova, it was a meringue nest with fruit salad on top!! The same Apple based Fruit Salad that was offered for breakfast!! Opted for the Lemon Meringue Pie on the second night and was pretty tasteless.. For a 4 Star hotel I thought the breakfast was a little bit of a letdown. We have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels and you would usually expect to see a display of cold meats and cheeses, While there were croissants on offer that were lovely freshly baked – no sweet choice of small pastries. It’s the little things that make the difference. Over all a nice hotel it’s the staff that really makes it..
Stayed on the June Bank Holiday weekend and had 2 double rooms. Unfortunately one of the rooms was for disabled people (which we did not book) and had inadequate washing facilities, a tiny sink and only a walk in shower, no bath. We also found the gym and pool badly situated. Apart from that the hotel was nice, staff reasonably friendly, rooms clean and of a generous size, and food very good. The hotel was a steep walk up from Cork city but in all we would probably stay there again if we had a good deal.
Great location, lovley hotel & great pool. Breakfast was lovely too. Room had no air con and we stayed on a very hot day so the room was roasting but nothing you can do about that. All in all would definately stay again.
My Stay at the Montenotte was ok. I found reception very untidy and the staff unpleasent. Our room was not ready until after 3, so we got lunch while waiting on the room, it took over one hour to get our lunch, their was a lot of communions on that day in the hotel and their didnt seem to be enough staff on to cope with the communions and most important the residence staying in the hotel. I also recieved a glass with lipstick on it so when I asked the bar tender for a clean glass he said and I quote "Sorry Luv" this was so unprofessional and rude. I found it very hard to believe I had to walk though reception and out side to get to the pool, I think this is terrible as who wants to walk through reception and out side after swimming. The parking facility is extremly poor, very little spaces and very tight spaces, extremly hard to get luguage out of the boot with the tree's My over all score for this hotel would be a 2/3 star, when you compare it to The River Lee which is also a 4* hotel, they are in totally different league.
mature couple celebrating wedding anniversary. Nice hotel, very friendly and professional staff. lovely rooms, great facilities, food ok-evening meal was corrected but disappointing to have to hand back. breakfast very good everything supplied even made me an omellete, taxi ride to town which is only a short spin cost 18euros return very expensive. The receptionist very pleasant and helpful with my complaint. I would definetley go back again not in May as they do a lot of communions.
Lovely Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Bar food top class. Enjoyed stay.
Stayed at the Best Western, Montenotte for three nights over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We had a very enjoyable stay, and were delighted with the hotel facilities. The leisure centre with pool, sauna etc is top class. The staff were helpful and courteous at all times, and provided a great service, even though the hotel was very busy. The hotel gave great value for money, and we would love to return again.
it was fab stay! cork is amazing and the hotel was brilliant! thanks a mill,
a flawless visit, great grub, lovely staff....
Great hotel, staff very friendly and helpful. The leisure facilities were great too! We ate in the bistro and the food was delicious
Top Class hotel, 4 star hotel 5 star service, well recommend.
M Ó Flatharta Stayed at the Montenotte, Cork Apr. 20th -23rd. A family gathering of 8. Even though some of us arrived early our rooms were ready. We had a very enjoyable stay. The staff was excellent, very friendly and helpful. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and food was excellent. It’s a downhill walk into the city (about 15min.) but we used taxis – more convenient and just as cheap when you consider the hassle of finding parking and the cost of it. Average cost of Taxi €8. We all enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation to return.
Staff are happy, friendly and helpful. Leisure Centre a plus for the price. A bit far from the city without a car,but peaceful location.
It was a nice hotel but I did not really enjoy the stay. When we arrived the room was not ready and it took almost two hours until we eventualy got the key. We had a 2yr old and a 3mnth old with us so it was very stressful tryin to keep them calm and quiet as we waited for the room everytime qwe asked we were told another 10 mins if we had of known it would take 2hours we could have brought the kids off and went back in a while which would of caused a lot less stress.
We stayed 2 nights in the Montenotte from Tue, 10th to Thurs 12th April and I can say it is good value for money. The reception staff was very welcoming and friendly too. Unfortunately the room my little daughter and I got (201) was very noisy and to warm too, also it was a double room even so I had booked a twin but reception had only a double left which was ok as well. Other then that it was clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the bar both nights and the food was very good. The service/restaurant staff couldn't really cope with the amount of people in there on Tue night and the waitress forgot everything I asked her for. The second night wasn't as busy and much better. Breakfast was good, but nothing spectacular, just what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel and a little hectic the first morning too. The leisure area was good, unfortunately on both days the jacuzzi didn't work. The floors could be cleaned more often in the changing areas apart from that good. I was not allowed to try out the steam room with my little one even so I was with her, why is that? I would stay again in the hotel (but in a different room) and I can recommmend it to others as well.
We stayed on the 7th & 8th of April and enjoyed our stay, it was a bit hectic at meal times as the hotel was very busy. We found the staff friendly and helpful and we will stay again.
Fantastic hotel staff lovely and very helpful will be going back again
We stayed here on Saturday last the 7th April 2012 and found the all round service to be excellent from the pleasant receptionist who took a genuine interest in our wellbeing to the attentive waitress who served us breakfast the following morning. In fairness to all staff the level of cleanliness was noted immediately in both the bedroom and bathroom and really I can find no negatives. Will definately return when needing a room in Cork City again. The Montenotte offers a really pleasant walk to Cork City centre as it is all downhill although perhaps the same might not be said about the walk back if you are so inclined. Personally I would recommend this hotel to anyone as excellent value for money.
Our stay with you was for 2 nights Thursday and Good Friday and not for pleasure as we were attending a funeral. We found the staff friendly and helpful particularly the Reception area. Hotel a little tired and in need of decoration but on the whole clean and comfortable. Would respectfully suggest that new pillows are needed (I went out and bought my own). We enjoyed a swim in the very good pool/gym area. Food in the dining room was good and breakfast had all we needed. I have stayed before and would again. Thank you for looking after us. Phil
I enjoyed my stay on Good Friday. Nice room but TV reception is poor with limited channel viewing. Had the bar food which was good and well presented and buffet breakfast had everything that I wanted. Will definitely be booking again. I know the Hotel plays by the rules but it was sad to see the bar open on Good Friday. C'est la Vie.
Comfortable rooms. Good food. Staff were courteous, helpful & efficient...especially reception. Very patient with my partner who is partially sighted and has limited mobility. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Thoroughly recommended.
Location and Service top class 5
My partner and i stayed for two nights in March at the Montenotte . As soon as we arrived the staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay . The rooms were spacious ,clean and the bed was very comfortable. The walk into the city took about 10 minutes and was down hill all the way but going back can be a bit tougher on anyone with walking difficulties. The breakfast was very nice and there was plenty of choice. We would recommend the Montenotte hotel and look forward to staying there again in the near future.
I stayed at the Montennotte on Sat Mar 24. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice, the bed comfortable. The hot water in the bathroom was not too hot and the pressure was a little low and the plumbing was noisy. However, on balance, it's a nice hotel and I'll stay there again!
Good value for money. Excellent leisure centre. Friendly staff.
We had a most enjoyable stay, the staff were helpful and the hotel was good, as was the food and location. many Thanks James Harley-Peters
Stayed here a few times before and enjoyed those. This time however on our second night we did not get much sleep as a large crowd of youths staying on the same floor were messing and running along the hallway. Their language was vile and I had to approach them myself to remind them that there was other people in the hotel who would like to sleep.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, could not be faulted. Bedroom we stayed in needed a revamp. Carpet faded and bathroom tiles could do with a face lift. Room was clean and food was good. Located on a steep hill, bear this in mind if thinking of walking into the city.
most enjoyable, could not fault the hotel. Staff very friendly.
We had a great stay Saturday night, 3rd March 2012. The was a few functions on in the hotel which created a great buzz and lovely atmosphere. Funnily enough you would have not know there were so many people downstairs as it was very quiet up where the rooms were. We had dinner in the restaurant and were not rushed from our table. We were able to sit down ,relax and enjoy our meal and a nice bottle of wine (the seafood chowder was devine) There was a musician in the bar that played a good variety of music too. I couldn't fault anything about our stay last Saturday night. Breakfast the next morning was great too.
We had a great stay in this hotel and would recommend it
Convenient hotel, about 10/15min downhill walk to Cork city quays, a taxi back costs about 8 euro. I wouldn’t consider it 4 star, it is closer to a 3 star standard just because of small details such as a broken handle on our window, no free water in room etc but the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was very good. Overall a good choice for a city break.
Nice hotel, the Leisure centre is lovely. Good location, possible to walk into town. Live music in the bar Saturday night was good. Would recommend to familys.
Hotel doesn't have the quality and standards of a 4-star hotel. Parking was terrible, not enough spaces and on 3 different levels. Had to park 2 levels down and it took 15 mins to walk to reception up a steep hill lugging 2 big suitcases in heels. Reception and dining areas are tastefully decorated but room decor is shabby and outdated. The bed was the worse bed I've ever slept in. Positives - great view of the city. Negatives - everything else. Would I stay here again - not even if you paid me!!
What a wonderful stay, the staff were very courteous and friendly from the moment we checked right through to checking out. I remarked at the time of checking in "this is the warmest welcome we've had for a very long time". The room was spacious and clean with excellent views of the city, it was lovely looking out watching the sunset. Dinner was also excellent with high quality food, surroundings and service. What I especially enjoyed was the fact that at some hotels, if you book a deal you get a different service, for example, normally there would be a separate menu to choose from in the restaurant, you worst fear is that you end up in the box room at the far corner of the hotel that nobody ever wants. Even at reception some hotels make it quite clear that you are the couple booking the bargain break as they fuss about the booking reference and the rules of the deal. Definitely not here, this was a very enjoyable and pleasurable stay that I would be happy to recommended to friends and family. Thank you to all the staff at the Montenotte Hotel and Lidl Breaks, exceptional value.
Had 2 night stay with dinner & breakfast included at the Montenotte. Lone traveller. Was delighted with the reception book in/out. All Staff that I encountered were cheerful polite and most helpful. My room was lovely size for me on my own, have to say my husband is a big broad shouldered man and I feel he would have found the bathroom too compact, however for moi on her own it was just dandy. Bed was sooooooo comfy. Pool/sauna etc right nerxt door and just lovely to use. My only only disappointment was the food. I am not at all fussy and really feel am easy to please in this area, however even the soup was pretty bland. I hate giving negative feedback as I think those that read the review concentrate on that instead of over all view. Over all I felt wellcomed, found all staff helpfjul, would both recommend and stay here again myself in the future. Anne the manager was just brill, couldn't be more nice. Oh by the way, the hotel is up a very steep hill, which on a dry crisp feb morning was a pleasure to walk down.A bus can bring you up so far on your return, and although for a not so fit over 50 the rest of journehy up hill was...........good for me..............it might have easily killed me off. Ha ha. Wish I could do it every day. Stay and enjoy..........I did
I was very disappointed with this hotel. I would not have called it a four star hotel at all! The bed was very small, room was dated and so stuffy! We could not turn off the radiators in the bedroom, there was no air conditioning and we could not open the window as we were on the ground floor and the window opened wide just above the carpark. On checkout we asked at reception if we had been put into a different class of room and we had booked a budget break but they assured us that we had not. I would not visit this hotel again. The dinner was fine but menu very limited. Of the 4 starters, 3 of them were soup and they didn't have one of the soups when ordered. Definitely not a 4 star hotel.
We recently stayed at the Montenotte and had a very enjoyable stay. The room was very spacious (2 double beds and there was plenty of room for a travel cot) and we had a lovely view over the city. The buffet breakfast was lovely, with a good choice. The hot breakfast was delicious and was freshly cooked on both mornings. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We made use of the swimming pool, which my son really enjoyed. Although the hotel is on a hill, we were able to walk down to the city and back which was very nice. We had a 4 year old (walking) and a baby in a pram so the uphill part was a bit slow going, but very do-able! All in all, we had a lovely stay and would definitely return to this hotel if we were visiting Cork again.
Just back from a lovely stay at the Montenotte. Absolutely delighted with our choice, the hotels interior is very modern and the hotel offers a very relaxing ambience. The bedrooms are very contemporary and the beds are massive. The bar is really cosy with leather sofas and has a brilliant view over the city. The staff are extremely friendly and will help you in any way that thay can. Although the hotel is a good fifteen minute walk from the city center this didn't bother us as we walked in during the day and at night time we got taxi's which were plentiful. Overall a very pleasant stay and I would definitely return.
WE had a very enjoyable stay. Staff very very friendly and extreamly helpfull. Rooms were very clean and comfortable and good size. Would have likes breakfast to go on past 10am midweek . Restaurant /bar food very good but brekfast poor quality . Overall a most enjoyable and relaxing stay and would highty reccomend this hotel ..
The hotel is in a quiet location a few minutes outside cork city. The hotel has good facilities but the rooms are in need of a little make over. I would stay there again and was good value for money.
We stayed in this lovely hotel for 2 nights & loved everything about it. Check in was the quickest & most effecient ever, our room was bright airy & spotless with everything you could want.We had 2 course dinner on one night & bar food the next, both were delicious & the service was great. There was a band playing on Sat night & they were dreadful ,we heard buskers singing in town earlier in the day &they were way better. The staff were under great pressure serving breakfast Sun morning but coped brilliantly. Not many tv channels&bad reception, sky sport on in bar,it would be lovely to have it in room Hotel is in a lovely part of Cork not far from Cobh& Fota Great that it has pool & is very child friendly,We will definitly come back.
Really enjoyed our stay the weekend before Christmas. The staff were very friendly and helpfull and the food was excellent.
Had a most enjoyable stay, the staff are next to none, food was excellent. The music in the bar was very enjoyable, the bathroom is a little dated.... I have stayed here in the past and will stay again. Great hotel!!
Had a very nice week end at the Best Western Montenotte, staff extremely friendly and helpful, food lovely, bedroom very clean and comfortable, bathroon spotless. Decor slightly dated. Hotel very busy but also very relaxing. Leisure centre great. Look forward to returning.
Very comfortable, welcoming hotel. it is my favourite place to stay when visiting relatives in Cork. I have stayed there more than once and just keep going back. Its relaxing and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
A positive experience. Staff are excellent and food is top quality at a reasonable price. Bedrooms are comfortable but our bathroom could have done with a refurb. Pool area is nice, just a pity there is no kiddie pool... Would stay again,,,,,
Had a most enjoyable stay. While on first appearance the hotel and the décor looked a little tired, the room was excellent, just as in the website photos. Toilet flush a bit iffy otherwise facilities were top class. The staff friendly and courteous, the bar service and food including the breakfast excellent. Would go back again.
stayed in the hotel with my family .. would not consider it a 4 star but not a bad hotel overall.. staff super.. and food great .. however did seem to notice lots of stags and hen parties stayed there.. so was woken up at 2.30 am .. and noise did not stop till approx 4.30am.. kids also woke up .. but overall great hotel apart from the noise.. one of my kids left one of his toys after him.. and rang back 2 days later.. and not a problem for the staff as had found it and kept it.. so happy days..
our stay was excellent from start to finish. the rooms are spacious, warm and have everything you need. the food was the nicest food that we have had in a very long time and the menu was excellent. staff were very helpful and nice. the lesiure centre was great. overall i would rate the hotel with 5 stars and would return again and this was our second time staying for a weekend break. would recommend this hotel
Hotel a little dated but nice and clean. Staff very friendly and bar food very nice. Service at breakfast was a little slow.
we asked for a quiet room if possible on the online form and were given room 301 which was near and overlooking the entance area , the whole night was interuppeted by drunk people leaving the hotel up to 5 am, often talking and swearing in a very rowdy way. the window of the room was totally ineffective at keeping noise out. the staff were very good at reception and when I complained in the morning the girl on duty was most understanding and apologised I was offered a 50% should I wish to stay again . I think you should close the bar much earlier than you do, and ask people to vacate the hotel .by 12 30.. peace and quiet for many people is essential in order to sleep . food was good Norman Collins
Staff were very helpful and nice. Thought the rooms were a bit dated and worn but very clean. Was a bit dissapointed with breakfast would have liked more choice. The bar food was excellent with plenty of choice. The hotel has a lovely leisure centre. We stayed in October '11
the staff very nice rooms hard to find directions on hallways very bad i booked a smooking room and they did not tell me until i had checked in that it was a non smooking hotel so out in the rain for me
We stayed in the hotel weekend of Oct 7th and 8th, it was a wonderful weekend from start to finish. The reception staff and Manager were so friendly and helpful on check in, the diningroom and bar staff were also very helfpul and friendly the food was delicious ( we had two dinners and two breakfasts). I would highly recommend the Montenotte to friends and family and will definately be back. I give it a five star rating. Veronica
Our stay in the hotel was just for 1 night. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. We also eat in the hotel bar and the food was very good. The only fault I had was that our room was at the front of the hotel and found that I could hear the passing traffic and also the late night revellers returning to the hotel. M Walsh
My wife and I stayed at this hotel last Saturday night and we were very satisfied with the accomodation. Our room was most comfortable and spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very good. We will certainly stay at this hotel again. Lidl-Breaks are excellent and great value and we use them frequently.
I would definitely not rate this hotel as 4* more like a 3* but it is still a great hotel to stay in when visiting Cork. Location is good just 10 minutes by bus or taxi or 25 minutes walk and all down hill and one must visit Cork City it really is one of the great cities to visit in Ireland and especially the English Market. Rooms are big and views over Cork City are great. breakfast and dinners are great and food selection is good. I will surely be back again to visit Cork City and will stay again at this hotel.
Stayed in Montenotte 2 nights B&B with 2 evening meals. Rooms were a good size with 2 double beds in them. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Meals were lovely. Yes, breakfast is buffet style with the usual selection but if you ask for extras they have no problems with that. We asked for tomatoes, mushrooms and poached egg to go on our breakfast plate and what arrived was a meal in itself. Music only on a Saturday night. It wasn't fantastic, but it better than nothing. Word of warning!!! Very steep hill up to hotel. It takes approx 7 minutes to walk down it but about 15 to 20 minutes to walk up it at a leisurely pace. But good exercise. You can also get a taxi for about €7. Also no bath mat in the bath so it can be very slippery when taking a shower. I wouldn't class this as a 4* hotel but I would definitely stay here again. Excellent value for what we paid.
The service at this hotel was excellent. The door didn't lock on the first room we had and the porter was there within minutes and we were given another, and nicer room immediately. The women at the front desk were always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and we had a room service dinner that came quickly, was still hot and was delicious. Although clean, the rooms and public spaces did seem a little worn. It was very busy though, so that would happen. The rugby world cup was on while we were there and they had the tv going and breakfast set up in the bar area for people who wanted to watch. I don't think many hotels would do that.
Fabulous food, brilliant service, exceptional staff. Highly recommend this hotel and will be returning in the near future.
We were very disappointed in service overall. Staff could be more friendly apart from one in, ? how many, for a hotel this size. A big improvement would be better staff training.
We stayed for one night in the hotel and overall it was pleasant breakfast was great, staff were under alot of pressure though and this slowed things down. I asked at reception on arrival if kids were allowed at in the bar and was told no not after food was finished but having reading previous reviews turns out somebody had kids in the bar in august. For this reason i wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone.
Excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, food was fantastic, would definitely stay again
We stayed in The Montenotte Hotel In Cork. The room was clean and warm but small, especially with a travel cot in it. The food in the bar was beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was free which is a huge bonus for a city hotel. The toilet had a pump flush which was sometimes difficult to flush. There was a daily rate of €6 for the use of the hotel's WIFI which I felt was very miserable, it should automatically be free. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, with a great price and convenient location.
We enjoyed our visit very much. the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was good. Thanks
Very dissappointing. This is simply not at the standard of other 4 star hotels. Shoddy tired decor and a series of badly painted extensions. I really was annoyed that it could call itself a 4 star. It felt dirty. I was embarrased to be bringing my girlfriend there and would have left only i had no time as we were going to a wedding. I will never be back.
Very disappointed with this hotel. The standard was definitely no-where near a four star hotel standard. We payed for our stay on arrival before we saw our room. If I had seen the room before paying I would have left. Very disappointed - the room was very small & crampy, the decor was something from a hostel, brown bathroom door and wall. Awful. We had dinner that evening in the restaurant and the service was very poor, there was one waitress and she was rushed off her feet looking after about ten or more tablets, crazy. The food was very poor - not at all four star quality.. I wouldnt stay in this hotel ever again..
wouldnt stay in this hotel again, very disappointed with the service an standard of hotel. It said that it was a four star but it came no where near this standard. The food was as good as you cooked it at home. The room we stayed in was awful, very cramped and looked like a hostel room. If i didnt pay on arrival i would have left on seeing the room. Very disappointed.
reception staff very friendly. Room fine. very disappointed with breakfast service. On first morning had to ask twice for a fried egg and was finished eating when they arrived. On second morning asked three times for coffee before receiving it. Seemed to be enough staff but just not tuned in.
Stayed here as a couple and was surprised it was so busy on the weekend prior to a festival weekend. The hotel appeared to be full and we could not fault it in any way. We dined in the restaurant on Fri & Sat night and food was excellent, served in timely manner by lovely staff. Breakfast was very nice too. Check in and out was efficient and friendly, sadly we didn't get to try the leisure centre as we were just too busy. I would recommend this and would stay here again if in Cork. The only minor downside was rooms are smaller than other hotels we stayed in but I would not let that put me off staying again
Very friendly Staff. Clean. Good food. Late night bar. Spectacular views. The only thing that disappointed me was that there was no entertainment or music in the bar area, apart from that all was good.
Rooms were lovely, staff in bar were very busy and rushed as there was a wedding on, this resulted in them coming across as being unfriendly and unhelpful, did not expect the charge of €5 for room service!!!
very comfortable rooms n beds. dinner was excellent. Breakfast great also.Staff really helpful.very good value for money. enjoyed the fitness centre facilities (hope they repair jacuzzi soon though!).highly recommended.
Stayed here as part of our diamond wedding celebrations. Excellent service, great location and view (especially at night). The staff were very pleasant and generous. Highly recommended.
Hotel located up hill on the outskirts of the city €10 taxi into the city centre, Breakfast was included in the price otherwise to expensive to dine in their restaurant better deals avalible in the city, No water pressure in the shower, Wi-fi was charged to the room
Not of 4 Star Standard, should be 3 Star. Room very stuffy and humid. Breakfast is of 1 star quality...breakfast staff very grumpy and dour.
was very impressed with the hotel rooms were very clean, staff were lovely will stay again :) Sharon
Beds very uncomfortable. Staff very nice though.
I found the room was very stuffy, it would have been nice if there was air conditioning in the room, also the toilet did not flush properly. Other than that I was happy enough with the hotel.
Enjoyed our stay, the staff were very friendly, the only down side was no sky sports, and we had to leave the hotel to find a location with sky sports for the football matches. otherwise we all had a good time.
i forgot to rate it
A clean hotel but terrible decor, the brown and orange carpet was enough to make me feel sick. I had to leave the breakfast room the first morning because one of the staff waiting on tables had sweat dripping down his face, the second morning i asked for fried eggs and after waiting half an hour with toast and coffee gone cold i left. definitely not a 4 star hotel, not suitable for a romantic getaway and i would never go back..
We were a group of ladies booking in for the night; The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and we found the hotel to be exactly as the picutres shown. The meal was fabulous- really yummy!. The rooms were very comfortable. The breakfast was good and they served till 10.30am. I would recommend the hotel; the price was extremely reasonable also.
Nice hotel in a good location. Food in restaurant very nice. Staff very friendly. Pool a bonus. Put cot in room for baby no probelm. Children allowed in bar at night. Bedrooms a bit dated.
We stayed at the Montenotte Hotel for one night of the August Bank Holiday weekend. What a lovely stay we had. Valarie the girl who checked us in was so friendly and helpful gave us a beautiful room to the front of the hotel with a fantastic view. All the staff were most helpful and when the iron did not work in the room (twice) they had no problem in brining us up another one. We did not have dinner in the hotel but the breakfast was very good. A bit short of some food on the buffet but it did arrive out in the end - but the food was very tasty. The bar also has a fantastic view and is very nicely furnished. We would have no problem in spending another few nights at this hotel. Enjoyed our short stay very much Thanks to all. Judy & Orla Mannion.
26/7/2011 - 29/7/2011. Had a very pleasant stay at the Montenotte Hotel, found room to be very clean, a little on the small side perhaps, as was the double bed, however it was adequate. Food in both bar and restaurant was excellent, staff were very helpful and friendly. The only fault I found was the overpowering smell of the lillies at reception that played havoc with my hayfever!!!
just back from cork on 25 july after staying at the for 4 nights on a lidl break great value for money . i read alot of the comments from other guests about bad service at the hotel and others that they would go back. we can honestly say that our stay was first class and friendly staff i would recommend to family and friends. only gripe would be pillows and location of lift paul @ mary west
Myself and my husband recently stay here for a weekend break, overall the hotel is very good lovely big rooms and very clean all the staff were very helpful and friendly my only negative about the place was breakfast on both mornings. it was buffet style and each morning when we arrived down we had to wait a while for the platters to be refilled, the staff on duty were doing their best but they were clearly understaffed in my eyes. they hotel was very busy so i thought they should have been better prepared for the morning rush of breakfast.
We had a 2 night stay at the Montenotte just recently and would recommend the hotel as a pleasant experience. The staff are friendly and helpful, our room was clean and comfortable as was the hotel. We were there on a package deal as a pensioner and tight budget restraints so the 2 nights B and B and Dinner for the 2 nights was excellent value, considering the meals we had and the overall experience one couldn't but thank the staff for a very enjoyable trip.If you are visiting Cork for the first time do visit the English Market and amble through the stalls and see the produce on offer it's a foodies delight. Ann and David, Ennis, County Clare. 10th July 2011.
A very average hotel with poor customer service. Requested a room with a view and was assured at check in it was lovely only to be faced with a large wall outside the window. The room was ok but the bed was 2 singles very obviously stuck together and I could clearly hear the conversation of the person in the room next door. Breakfast was nice but unfortunately it was poorly staffed. Asked twice for tea and toast and when it finally came we had finished out breakfast. All in all a very forgettable stay.
lovely hotel only 1 gripe the same menu for the 3 nights we stayed and no smoking area as such you had to go outside the hotel or off the bar which was annoying.
room was clean and comfortable, evening meal was very good but breakfast was average. need to learn how to pour and present a pint of guinness in the bar.overall we enjoyed our stay and would return.joe and teresa
Arrived at the hotel Friday afternoon had to wait for room to be ready. Room was very spacious and clean. Staff could not have been more helpful. Even gave my husband a change of main course on Sunday evening. As my Husband e doesn’t like Bistro food so he had carver on Sunday evening. The only thing that we missed was the music at night. They said that there is no music. And the receptionist said Music is only on in the Hotel July and August. Thanks to Lidl for their special offer we enjoyed it very much.
We only stayed one night. I dont think this hotel merits 4 stars at all. We booked a double room and given a twin room with a shower for a disabled person. Hotel is dated, carpets are dated and skirtings in hallways shabby plus a lot of walking to get to the room we were changed to. Wouldnt stay there again.
Hotel Montenotte was a pleasure to stay in, lovely food and great leisure centre. Fantastic value for money on the Lidl Breaks site and will definately be using this site again.
Great location, great value for money. Service and food very good and rooms very clean. Would stay here again
Excellent value for money - very nice hotel and enjoyed our stay
Must say the Lidl break in tne Montenotte Hotel was fantastic value for money the food was great, staff very polite, hotel very relaxing stay, rooms lovely and great facilities, and location very good
the hotel was nice i wouldnt say worth the 4 stars though, staff were very polite and helpful, meals were lovely. only complaint is it was a pity there wasnt music in the bar during the week
We stayed in The Best Western Montenotte 26 and 27th April '11.We got B & B and evening dinner for 98 Euro each. Hard to beat that for value. We were looked after really well. The room was nice and clean with a great view of Cork. We walked to town several times. 15 minutes in. 20 minutes to come home. Taxis ordered for us when requested. We have no complaints. Meals were excellent. A special thanks to Emma for her help.We will be back and we won't stay anywhere else. What's great about Lidl breaks is, no tokens to collect. Its so easy to book. hope Lidl breaks continue.
My wife and I stayed here for one night. The food was good and the service/staff were excellent. The value for money was exceptional. I will be booking through Lidl breaks again in the future. Thank you Lidl and Montenotte Hotel Cork. Mr & Mrs JL
Lovely hotel, GREAT value for money, would recommend and stay here again!
lovely hotel, food great, staff fantistic a nice and relaxing place too unwind and chill for a few days
Had a great time with Family, the hotel is well located and good value for money, the only issues we had was on Good Friday there was no fish on the breakfest menu which was a bit strange. Other than that room was very clean, staff very friendly.
Great location , within walking distance of Cork city centre for the Moderatly ambulatory or slightly fit. Very serene old Continental-type area. Staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful which was probably a reflection on the very well informed and conversable Manager. Truly service with a smile. Most of all honesry, as I dropped a 10 or 20 cent coin on our room floor one night and forgot about it 'till it appeared on my bedside locker the following evening. The bar food is very good and the food in the resturant is good but size of the portions are huge.Possibly good for our US visitors. All in all a great Hotel to stay and relax in a quaint residential neighbourhood. Afantastic Lidl break and great value for money. Thank you Lidl and Montenotti. We will be back.
lidl value great food v good service good room not great bathroom grouting dirty only 3 pillows in double room half of loo roll left to use in our bathroom loo holder broken handle on bathroom door missing small things i know but make a difference to your stay carpet threadbare in room AND ON STAIRS THANKS AGAIN FOR VALUE LIDL
I really enjoyed my stay in the Montonotty Hotel Cork. The rooms are very comfortable, you have a huge chioise for breakfast, the use of the swimming pool and jym. All at a great price. I would visit again. William Keogh Co. Offaly.
I was very dissapointed with my stay at the Montenotte on the 15th and 16th of april, we were kept awake untill 4am in the morning by a party of about 30 unsupervised children running around the corridors shouting and slamming doors while the gurdians drank in the bar downstairs, there seems to be no policy in place in the hotel to controll unsociable guests. Although the staff were trying thier best to deal with the situation it seemed to be completely out of there controll, and we had to deal with the situation ourselves. All of the staff were brilliant that were working that weekend during the day and night, but after reading other guests reviews the noise situation seems to be a reacurring problem here for guests and the hotel doesn't seem to be taking any action to prevent this from happening. I have never ever experienced anything like it in another hotel. There were other minor petty complaints like worn carpets,a 1cm gap gap in the window when it was closed, cold breakfast, poor tv reception, ect but I would not stay here again on the grounds that you are not guarenteed a good nights sleep.
We had a great time, all staff very friendly hotel clean and rooms clean, only one bath towel per room which was strange as two people sharing the room. on the whole great value for money.
This was our fourth stay at the Montenotte Hotel and it certainly won't be our last, the staff and most importantly the chef's are top quality, the bedrooms are airy and spacious and comfortable and the leisure facility is excellent with its wonderful pool,steam-room, sauna and gym.If I was to find a fault it would be the lack of directional sign posts for those not too familiar with Cork City, knowing the huge cost that local Co. Council's put on these sign-posts it is understandable to keep them to a minimum.Keep up the good work,Regards,Pat Clancy.
Hi The Lidl breaks are indeed great value for money!! But I am afraid I do have a few complaints about the hotel!!! The food in bar was very poor, tiny portions and bad selection plus kiddies meals were way over priced!! In all you would def need a starter as the portions were so small!!! The breaktast was good the 1st morning but by the third morning, the scones, grapefruit juice, and selection of fresh fruit had all vanished!!!! The family room we had was tiny!!! Towels were sparse, only one hand towel provided, only 3 pillows on the double bed, plus the shampoo, conditioner were never replemished!! And finally the noise late at night from a wedding was terrible!, you could hear every note of music, and people shouting!!! It should definitely not be classed as a 4*, its not worthy!!!!! I know in this recession times are hard, but it seemed to be busy enough, very little staff on, will not be going back, they should bear guests comments in mind to improve their standards!! The food needs to be improved big time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really nice hotel Long walk from City. Number 7 or 8 bus stop is a five minute walk away from hotel and will take you into the City. Recommend buying Day saver ticket - that way you can travel to and from hotel as many times as you want.
We had a lovely stay at the Montenotte the food was excellend my only complaint was the noise from the boiler at night it was hard to get to sleep, we would stay again, Terry Long
The Montenotte hotel was a nice place. Certainly nothing too fancy, but nice. Clean, with a lovely pool and well equipped gym in the basement. Staff were helpful and friendly, but not over intrusive. The room had everything I needed and was comfortable and a nice size. Carpets were faded, and worn through in a couple of places, which gave a bad first impression, so I'd love to see that changed as its really selling the place down, but apart from that, it was lovely. I was disappointed (and left out of pocket) by the fact that reception staff advised me that it was impossible to get a bus to my destination without changes and delays. There was, in fact, a direct bus within a five minute walk which cost %u20AC2.50 per day as opposed to the $28 (before tips) that a return taxi cost for the first two days until I figured out the busses.
lovely hotel its the third time we stayed here.Every thing was as nice as usual. Only thing I was a bit worried about was one of our card keys went missing during cleaning. the receptionist was lovely and changed the the card codes straight away
we had a lovely weekend at the montenotte hotel. the staff were vey nice and helpful, the hetel was clean and comfortable. the food was exellent especially the evening meal. we felf the room was a little small but it was comfortable.the leisure centre was nice ,parkig was good and it was a nice ten minute walk iinto cork. we would definately stay at the montenotte hotel again. many thanks for a nice week end.

All worked out as planned no hidden extras great value.Only snag our room was at the start of the corridor and there was a wedding on the first night which meant a lot of noisy people passed our door until very early the next morning.Otherwise very pleased.
OK, but the room was not of a standard you expect from a 4 star hotel. The thermostat in the bathroom was not working, giving only boiling watyer in the shower...Not nice if you want to washy your hair! Most of the carpets in the hotel need to be changed.. But in the adds, they say the hotel has rexcently been refurbished...
Room was ok, but bed was TINY! was like a large single bed, for a double room in a 4* hotel?? Not good. Food was ok in restaurant but you had to pay for your veg and side potatoes which were way over priced . And also dont avail of the masseaus they have on the website , he is not professional at all, had an appointment and he messed us about big time. Over all not a bad experience, breakfast was buffet which was good.
Excellant Value , good location
Great location and the staff were extremely helpful. One word of note for people with buggies the lift situation there is not the best.
Wouldnt go back stayed two nights and the shower ran out of water three times, and the wine came down too the table warm twice had to ask for ice in the wine cooler.lovely hotel but wouldnt go back.
Hi all Room clean and presentable but extremly warm which made it uncomfortable. Staff very friendly and food in the resturant very good ,car park full to capacity and very difficult to find parking The Lidl break good value for money. Satisfaction rating above average Overall rating 7 out of 10.
Had a great break. Worth every euro. Food great, staff very friendly. Enjoyed the leisure facilities. Town within walking distance. Rooms great size and abolutely spotless. Have used Lidl break before now and will definitely use again.
MYSELF AND MY PARTNER STAYED IN THE MONTENOTTE HOTEL ON 18TH - 20TH MARCH. WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH OUR STAY, THE BEDROOMS WERE OF A HIGH STANDARD AND VERY CLEAN, THE LEISURE CENTRE WAS A NICE SURPRISE AND THE FOOD WAS LOVELY. THE STAFF WERE ALL VERY PROFESSIONAL AND VERY HELPFUL. FOR 29EURO A NIGHT B & B, WE COULDN'T HAVE GOT A TWIN ROOM IN A HOSTEL FOR THAT PRICE!!! THANK YOU LIDL AND THE MONTENOTTE FOR A WONDERFUL WEEKEND. FRANCES O'CONNOR
Hi' Room 315 no lock or handle on bathroom door, work top around sink in poor condition. Radiator airlocked only lower section of radiator heating. Part of the kettle handle broken indiactor bulb and wire exposed. Batteries falling out of remote control for television held in the slot by sellotape. Easi chairs, one with padding exposed and the other one a leg warped. Only one hand towel provided, one soap tablet, one small container of shampoo and shower gel supplied, had we not been a couple (say two friends out for a weekend) we would be compelled to use the same towels, soap etc.most hotels of average rating supply sufficent towels and soap for each individual. Staff friendly. The Lidl break good value for money. Satisfaction rating DISSATISFIED Overall rating 4 out of 10. Regards Eileen Donlon.
The Montenotte hotel offered excellent service. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, The staff members were very helpful and offered a service with a smile. I also enjoyed the on site massage which was great value for money. I would have no hesitation in recommended this to someone.
I stayed in this hotel on Mar 12th, I must say it was top quality, The room was of a high standard and a good leisure centre. I would stay here again.
Always enjoy staying at the Montenotte. Close to city, the staff are nice and well, it's Cork.
When we arrived at the hotel the receptionist informed us that the room we had requested was overbooked, and we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment. The apartment was very big, and well decorated, but obviously the last guests were smokers and it smelled quite bad, also the apartment was not exceptionally clean, the carpet for example had not been hoovered. The staff were exceptionally nice and friendly and the value was amazing as we only paid %u20AC50. For that price it was definitely great value but the hotel is more 3 star than 4 star. The area is lovely and the view at night is amazing.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay at The Montenotte Hotel Cork however we found that the cleanliness and up keep were lacking.
very pleased; great value; staff very friendly;room comfortable;good selection at breakfast and on bar food menu;certainly recommend lidl breaks ;comments on behalf of ray kavanagh and john mcquaid
stayed in montenotte hotel in cork for one night, room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was good and would recommend this hotel, leisure centre attached which is added bonus, good value for money
Friendly staff, nice pool, large clean modern clean room, good breakfast and good location for a city break in Cork. The only major bad point is that their was quite a lot of noise on the Saturday night which disturbed our sleep due to the wedding party continuing the party in the rooms/corridor.
We had a lovely stay in the Hotel, staff were extremely nice, very comfortable and quiet, breakfast was a very good standard, evening meal was good too, as you could supplement the meal with your choice of desserts and drinks. All in all good value for money, thanks to Lidl breaks. Mary Collins
not impressed- felt like second class citizen! only one hand towel and one bath towel provided. telephone didn't work. no plug in bath- had to go to reception to request one(because phone not working) and then was left over an hour before it was delivered!! meal not great-but breakfast good.
Enjoyed our stay at The Montenotte Hotel. The red rose petals on the bed were a lovely touch for Valentine's weekend, room was clean, food was good especially breakfast, staff were helpful and friendly. Thank you Lidl for excellent value for money! Carol 16/02/11
Had a good stay at the montenotte.Staff where very helpfull and polite .Room was lovely and clean and there lesuire area was good too.Cork is a lovely city great night life and good shopping areas.I would recommend it for anyone interested in going.
hi really enjoy our stay at the montonotte hotel declan
everything about this hotel was excellent staff food surroundings ect. my only moan would be a little updating in the leisure would not go astray will be back again.
Not very wheelchair friendly. Very hard to get your tea or coffee at breakfast time staff not very friendly. they also started to tidy away breakfast food half hour before breakfast finished. Fire Alarm went off 3 times on Friday night, hard to get back to sleep.
WE recently stayed in the Montenotte Hotel in Cork City. We found the staff to be extremely pleasant and helpful. The food was delicious - both bar food and the breakfast was excellent. The room itself did not seem to be four star standard and was quiet dated. Overall we really enjoyed our stay but the room could definately do with being updated.
had a lovely time in our stay at the Montenotte room lovely food exellent staff were so nice nothing was a bother will go again Ann Pat
We only stayed one night but the food and accommodation were great. Would recommend this hotel for short breaks.
We stayed on last weekend in the Montenotte Hotel. The room was lovely - large, nice and clean. The TV was not working when we arrived but this was very promptly sorted out following a call to reception. We had dinner in the hotel that night and there was a very good choice on both starter and main course. The food was excellent and a nice atmosphere in the hotel. Breakfast the next morning again was very good - great choice in everything! Service in the hotel was excellent in reception, breakfast/dinner staff. I would thorougly recommend a stay in this hotel and definitely will be doing another lidl-break as such great value !
The bathrooms are very out dated and looked dirty because of it. The service in the hotel was extremely bad. The restaurant back ground music for breakfast was rap with obseen language. on a little more positive the food was delicious & the rooms are well designed.
thank you lidl for a great stay , found hotel to be very good staff and food excelant will go back again 5 out of 5 thanks again
Had a fantastic stay at this hotel as usual. There staff were fantastic and so was the leisure center.Had two kids with us and they really enjoyed it.Great place to stay.
not up to 4 star standard as it is advertised, carpets awful, and there the first thing you see, rooms old and stains on bed covers, won't b going back
We had a very pleasant stay in Jan 2011 lovely room and view. Friendly and helpful staff excellent rates. Excellent leisure centre and pool and convenient location
i enjoyed my stay in the Montenotte hotel over the New Year, although i was disappointed that there was only a DJ on New Years eve and on New years night there was to be live music but this did not materialise. The hotel was nice and warm, the food was good and the staff was friendly but i felt the carpets looked old and dirty, a good cleaning or replacement is needed. Vera
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Montenotte hotel. The food was lovely, both evening meal and breakfast especially the wholemeal bread - compliments to the chef! The staff were very friendly, we had a problem with the TV but it was replaced straight away we would highly recommend this hotel. S&P
the hotel was top class , the food in the resturant was excellent, the reception staff were very nice, this was one of the best lidl break stays we have had this year. our fifth so far , great value .
I was disappointed with the hotel standard. I would consider it to be a 3star rather than 4. The hotel is in need of refurbishment.Access to upper floors via steps, lift is on the first floor rather than the ground floor and is quite a distance from reception. There were 2 of us in a twin room but only got 1 towel, 1 shampoo and 1 shower gel. Aeriel to the tv was broken and had to be repaired. We had dinner in the hotel which was grand. Breakfast was a let down - cold. However staff were helpful.
We were a group of 14 on a two night stay. We found the staff friendly and helpful with exception of one of the non-Irish barstaff, but perhaps that's just in comparison to the friendly Corkonians, and one of the receptionists on check out who wouldn't explain the bill for us. The hotel in general needs a little TLC inside and the very least that could be done is to replace the frayed carpet on the stairs near reception as this creates your first impression. Breakfast was a busy affair, with delays for nearly everything from juice glasses to bread, but the food was lovely as was the bar food which we availed of on both days. All in all we had a lovely stay and thought it very good value for money.
we were very pleased with our stay in the montenotte hotel in Cork, the staff were very friendly and helpful. bedroom basic but clean and neat, Dining room lovely and food in the evening excellent , good choice of menu, breakfast good. bar basic but good and friendly, no music;;;. car parking and within a 15 min walk to the city, we would go back.
GREAT VALUE WEEKEND.WOULD ABSOLUTY RECOMEND LIDL B/B OFFERS. WE WILL BE USING THEM AGAIN. ROOM WAS LOVELY,DELIGHTED TO HAVE BATHROOM WITH ACTUAL BATH).GREAT LOCATION FOR CITY CENTER SHOPPING. BREAKFAST LOVELY,STAFF FRIENDLY AND VERY PLEASANT.OVER ALL COULDN'T FAULT IT. LOOKING FORWARD TO RETURNING TO THE MONTENOTTE AGAIN.
I was a bit disappointed with the hotel standard. I would have classed it as a 3 star rather than 4. The pool and leisure facilities were very good, however the room had very uncomfortable beds, the configuration of the room had been changed and it was very cramped. The bathroom was really disappointing. The decor was mismatched with broken tiles, a stained bath and really weak shower. There were 3 of us in a family room but only got two towels. We also ate dinner in the bistro on one of the nights and the food was very average. However the staff couldn't have been nicer and the breakfasts were great. I thought it was great value for money for a 4 star hotel, but didn't get the comfort I expected.
I think the Lidi Breaks are excellent value for money and have used them on three occasions this year. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was excellent at the Montenotte Hotel. However I don't believe the hotel is a 4 star rating. The rooms are very outdated and in bad repair. The website gives the impression that the Hotel is much larger with a lot more restuarants, function rooms then they actually have. We won't be returning, its a pity because with some updating it could be excellent.
We had a wonderful time in the hotel, the staff was helpful and friendly.I will recommend the hotel to other people (we already told friends about the friendly stay). It was good value for our money, thank you Lidl for the break we certainly enjoy it and will use it again in the future.
Good location, great value for money.Rooms good. Staff lovely on reception, not great at breakfast on the sunday morning.
What a crap hotel - Would never stay here again.
spent four nights and had a very enjoyable time.hotel is within walking distance of main shopping area.found bar/restaurant on the cold side and room was uncomfortably hot.would rate the hotel a good three star but. . not four star.Terry
lovely clean hotel
Great value, nice hotel, friendly staff, good food. Will go back again.
Enjoyed 3 night stay in Montenote. V. Good value for money. Food excellent. Staff helpful & friendly. Hotel a little cold in bar and restaurant. Leisure centre and pool excellent. Bedrooms adequate if bathroom a little small.
Stay in Hotel was Excellent. Excellent service. Friendly Staff. Lidl Break was very satisfactory and great value for money.
Brilliant weekend, food was excellent very good value for money all round.
Had a lovely stay in montenottl..very nice hotel.very cental to city centre. Food was gorgeous Emer Murphy
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights through the Lidl breaks offer and found our experience a thoroughly refreshing one from the moment we arrived to when we left. The staff are all very friendly, approachable and very accomodating. We got a lovely warm welcome when we arrived and like others found that while the hotel had a great buzz of activity to it, there was also a tranquil quietness which meant that we were able to enjoy a thoroughly relaxing stay. Food was lovely both at breakfast and dinner time and the martini's mixed just to our liking went down so well while enjoying a lovely view over the city. The rooms were a good size and very comfortable and came with everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. We came home and started to plan our next visit to this hotel straight away!
I have stayed in quite a few hotels in Cork previous to this, but The Montenotte is the one i shall be returning to in future! Staff greeted me and my partner with great manner and a friendly welcome, so 5 stars to the staff! Friends who joined us later also commented on the warm welcome. Nice decor, cosy comfortable rooms, tea and coffee facilities, shampoo, proper hairdryers, flatscreen TV etc.what you'd expect from a 4 star. Has a nice bar with lovely view of the city and tempting food and snacks being served in bar. Live music in bar on Saturday nights but we ordered a taxi from reception and went into town for a great night out. This hotel has a lovely buzz and feel to it and therefore at such a reasonable price at 78euro with Lidl i would be delighted to recommend this hotel and return there again and again! It also appeared to be full but not at all noisy for customers who would seek some peace and quietness! Did not see the leisure centre unfortunately, so i cannot comment on that. Just one negative - the hotel is quite difficult to find and wouldn't be the easiest for someone with walking difficulties! A few signposts around may have saved a lot of time, now that i know where it is it won't be a problem getting there again though.
4 stars My Husband and I have just spent 3 nights in the Montenotte Hotel in Cork. Sept 2010. I thought the Hotel was really comfortable and the staff very helpful. The Bed and Breakfast deal with Lidl was great value and the full Irish Breakfast was really good. The Leisure Cebtre was great as well with a large size pool. A short walk from the City centre. I would definately recommend this Hotel. Keep up the Lidl deal it is great value.
Annie May & Des,Loughrea,Co.Galway. midweek stay 15th Sept. Montenotte Hotel,Cork City.clean hotel, wonderful facililitys, great food, friendly cheerful staff, especially Ber (Bernadette)& Isabella in the Vista lounge, they would be an asset to any establishment.Very good value Lidl Hotel breaks.Congrats to Cork on their lovely clean City.
Ideal location - 15 min. walk to city centre (downhill) - regular city bus service to wthin 200 yards of hotel. Buffet breakfast - excellent. Nice view of Cork city from room & dining room/bar. Staff friendly & helpful. Due to problem at home, I had to change the dates of booking. This was done over the phone with no hassle or surcharge. We were very pleased with the whole experience. Great value!
This having been our 5th stay we are still delighted with the level of courtesy and professionalism we received. We have endeavored to tell our friends about the hotel and we have recommended you to all of them. Our rating is a definite 5 stars. Thank you from the both of us and we look forward to seeing you soon. John & Margaret
myself and my husband had a three night break in the montenotte hotel it is a beautiful hotel with great views of cork city the rooms are big and very comfortable and the staff were really friendly and helpful , its about a fifteen minute walk from the city will definitly return , great value break from lidl
Good value for money.Staff friendly.clean hotel,Nice swimming pool.
We booked a night stay in this hotel as we wanted a rest away from out triplets and 22 month old. To our dismay there was a party on with loud thumping music until 12.45 am. The rooms were a good size and clean but the bathrooms were grotty and the decor looked as if it was put up to hide damp. The breakfast was standard . Definately not a four star standard. When we complained about the noise we were handed a voucher for 2 nights for the price of one which they handed out to every guest. Very dissapointing. Never again
not a four star hotel overall hotel poor
Delighted with the hotel, the location and the staff. Will definitely use this hotel in the future. we had a lovely weekend, could not fault it.
I would not stay here again. I booked a family room as we have two children and the room only had 3 beds a double and a single so we were charged an extra 30 euros each night for a fold up bed for our 4 year old. The booking form allowed us to book 2 adults and 2 children but failed to mention the missing bed and the extra charge totalling 60 euros for both nights of our stay.
lovely hotel lovely staff and lovely breakfast. second time staying here and would definitely return.nice smile and greeting from the red haired girl behind the desk on arrival and she was very helpful.
My husband and i had a really lovely 3 night break in the montentte hotel food was really good, friendly staff, bedroom's to a good standered. we would book through lidl break's again, very good value for money.
Excellent stay!
we loved our stay in the Montnotte and in particular the friendly staff when we arrived we were greeted by a beautiful Dublin girl and helped us in every way possible while we were there sorry we havent her name .our breakfast first class and our appartment a surprise . Thank you Montnotte regards Adeline +P.J Naughton
lovely staff and very central - can walk to twon in ffifteen mins. Lots to do in Cork !! nice pool in the hotel open early till late .. the kids loved it . They were very good to us actually and brought in a bed for our son with no extra charge. There is a really nice shop near the hotel with nice organic food and a chinese within walking distance . Breakfssts were yummy with lots of fresh fruit salad - really good coffee and really nicely cooked eggs. The children were not included but it oly coist 5 euor each for them to have breakfast. We will go bakc agaijn I think in the fall. Maria August 10
Hello my NAME IS MARGAET DUNNE I SPENT THREE DAYS THERE LAST WEEK I WILL CERCTINLY RECOMAND YOUR HOTEL. We traveled down by train the girls on reception could not have being more help in suggesting places to visit .We did not find the distance from Cork a problem.that no 8 bus was good. The only problem we had the hotel was very warm hope to viisit again soon
The hotel in general was fine, but there is no way it is a 4 star.Furniture in the dining was very, dirty lots of stains on the seats, food in general was pretty good but the service was at times at best average. The management of the hotel seems very lacadazical,a complaint we made about noise on our first night a complaint which was echoed by many more guests was handled by management leaving us a note of appology and a plate of biscuits. The Lidl-break however was brilliant value and a must do again.
rooms very poor, had asked to pay to upgrade to a suite and was but only after being sent to wrong room first, staff pleasent, food very nice, definetly not a 4 star hotel, but love lidl breaks, great value for money.
Nice setting close to the City Centre - but expected more. I found the Reception staff unhelpful ,water was cold and had to be left on for a while before it heated up . Difficult to sleep as the rooms were very stuffy
We had very enjoyable stay and it is worth every penny. However, it would be great to also offer a choice of a two night break with breakfast and dinner on one evening.
We loved everything about the hotel and location and would definitely consider staying there again
Overall we enjoyed our stay however it was not what you'd expect for a 4 star hotel, the breakfast staff were quite unhelpful and on one particular morning the air conditioning unit was dripping onto the pastries and despite being told the staff were very slow to act on it. I also thought it was in need of updating, the rooms were very hot and the windows only opened a few inches making it hard to sleep. Great city location and close to great attractions including fota wildlife. As for lidl breaks great value and I would definitely use them again!! John
Gorgeous food as much as you can eat! Friendly staff. Nice pool with steam room & sauna for adults only. Disappointed with our bedroom carpets were stained and bath was perished, leaky tap! - expected more from a 4 star hotel. The little one disappointed with lack of dvd facilities on tv and choice of stations!! Delighted with Lidl-Breaks offer though can't beat it anywhere we reckoned.
The hotel itself was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was not 4 star but the breakfast was great. The leisure facilities needed to be cleaner to be even 3 star standard, but over all hotel is in a good location and really enjoed my lidl break! Have recommended it already.
Had a very pleasant stay in spite of bedrooms being too hot as weather was warm and we couldn't open windows beyond a few inches , it was hard to sleep on the last night we did get a portable fan.Staff were v.pleasant and helpful and the facilities in gym very good however I would think it would not rate a 4 star probably 3 star and it was good value, A.B.
Stayed overnight for 2 nights very comfortable brilliant food staff exceptional. We had a problem with noise from a group next door to us not the hotels fault just some trashy crowd hotel only ended up charging us for one night as an apology GREAT HOTEL VERY CENTRAL IDEAL BASE TO DISCOVER CORK CITY..
My wife and I enjoyed very much our one night stay in the Montenotte hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the room was comfortable but the highlight was the quality of the dinner in the restaurant. The hotel is also within walking distance of the city while removed from the bustle. We would avail of a Lidl break again and the value was exceptional.
Excellent value, food excellent, bedrooms very nicely done up but the bathrooms were a bit grubby. Staff extremely friendly.
Lidl Break was fantastic Value for Money. The hotel room itself lacked atmosphere. I felt that we were relegated to a very old side of the hotel. The food in the restuarant and the breakfast the following morning was superb. Overall we had a very enjoyable Value for Money break.
very good value for money
Excellent hotel and very good value, we will go again later in the year.
this was our second lidl break and i must say it wasnt great.....windows didnt open properly no fridge in room.. went to resturant for evening meal ...got seated on balcony with menu's and it was 15mins before staff came back to us... and got order wrong... ordered ice for room took 30mins..got sent to wrong room. overall staff friendly but seviced needs to improve.... hotel need to update its rooms
Have to say was disappointed, was in an old room which needed refurbishing, obviously the better reviews were in refurbished part, food was fine first night but awful second night - overall very hit and miss and not worth even the lidl price
Not a Four Star Hotel, - June 2010 No Air Con in room, no free wireless broadband in public areas, no free broadband in room either wifi or cable. Had to open a window at 2.30am because we were gasping for air. Then the next morning a glass recycling truck under our window woke us up. Food Good, Service good, Check-in quick, Room adequate, Parking Good. If I need to stay in Cork again I will stay at the Cork International Airport Hotel. It may be a little bit out of the City but Wow what a good hotel, even by International Standards it's one of the best I have ever stayed in and I travel a lot in USA and Europe. P&M
Loved our stay, thought it was excellent value, staff very friendly, located close to Cork, would definately come back again
Stayed in this hotel for a lidl break, which was a bargain. Staff v friendly, hotel and gym very clean and comfortable. Even with our set menus the food was excellent and good portions. one problem we had was our room smelled of cigarrette smoke, but didnt linger long. Great stay.
we stayed in this hotel on lidl breaks at easter and found it all excellent standard the hotel was immaculate the staff very helpful and friendly and the food was brilliant wil def come back again
excellent
We only stayed one night at The Montenotte Hotel, the food was very good, the service was good, the leisure centre was excellent and the staff at the leisure center were very helpful. The Reception staff were ok and the suroundings pleasant. Felt it was excellent value for money all around.
Very disappointed in this hotel, the shower was broken, it had obviously happened before as they knew exactly what tool to bring. I could not eat the breakfast as it was cold, when they eventually cleared the breakfast tables they just pushed all the crumbs off the table on to the floor where you had to walk. The only friendly staff was at the leisure centre. At least the bedding was clean and the facility's were good except the steam room at of order.
This hotel has nice rooms, but you wont get them on this deal. we were shown three sub standard rooms before we gave up and left. The rooms are in an old block, three floors of ten rooms each, small, dingy, smelly and old.
This was our first visit to the Montenotte Hotel Cork and we will be back. Very friendly and helpful staff. Our original room was a distance to the Exit area and my wife finds it difficult to walk any great distance due to a road accident. When this was explained to the receptionist we were moved within minutes to a room nearer the exit. Food was good to excellent. I would have to visit again to give a star rating. I hope Lidl keep this Hotel on their List. Alice & Trevor Denner
Fantastic hotel! Staff are very friendly and helpful, rooms are lovely and clean with very comfy beds and nice bathrooms. However, the weather was very warm when we were there and there is no air con and windows don't open very wide so it was quite warm in the rooms. The hotel is on a very steep hill but there's plenty of parking and taxis into town are cheap because you're literally in town once you get to the bottom of the hill. The good thing about the hill is that the hotel benefits from amazing views, particularly from the bar/restaurant at night. Food was great, both for dinner and breakfast. Will definitely be back.
We enjoyed a lovely few days on the outskirts of Cork city and were well situated for touring Cork county. The service in the Hotel Montenotte was superb and whole stay way excellent and afordable. Thanks
The hotel , the staff and the food were lovely but our room was over the lesiure centre boilers. I had mentioned the room was very warm just after we arrived and the Manager said he would look after that. We were out in the evening and when we came back to the room it was like a sauna neither got a nights sleep. At 5am I had to go down to reception to let me outside for air I was that hot. I complained and was given a meal voucher. I would go back but I will make sure I am in a different part of the hotel
we had a lovely stay in montenotte hotel in may.staff very friendly and hard working.room very clean and comfortable, breakfast and dinner very good value for money.love to go back again.
Great staff, Good food and a terrific view from the bar.Very child friendly. All thats left to say is,"I,ll be back".
Lovely hotel, staff were very polite & helpful. Location was quite good only a few minutes from city centre. The evening meal & breakfast were both very enjoyable.
I would have to say the above hotel was outstanding value with the Lidl break offers. I have picked 4 stars but more accurately it should be 3.5 stars. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
disappointed with overall standard
We stayed one night b&b with evening meal , really enjoyed the meal and breakfast , it was a weekend night we stayed so there was live music in the bar , a nice relaxing bar which suited us for a quite night away .
The staff were really welcoming and the restaurant was really dood with great choice and very accommodating for children. The leisure centre was really nice and opening times were suitable for all. The location was perfect for us as we visited Trabolgan and Fota wildlife park, and both were located on this side of the city.It is also close to Mahon point where thaere is a cinema and some good shops. The rooms were basic but clean and it is in a very quiet location.
Sorry didnt like this hotel. It was run down and the food was awful. Stayed in three other lidl deal hotels and liked all the others - def not this one.
