We had a wonderful 3 night break in this hotel. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the room comfortable. The only drawback was the constant pop music that was playing in the background in the lobby which made it difficult to read whereas pleasant soothing instrumental music would have suited the style of the hotel much better. Will definitely visit again though .

Had a lovely one night stay in this hotel. The room was fine and had all amenities. The weather wasn't good but had no problem with the wifi. Breakfast was lovely as were the staff. The hotel is being upgraded and has lovely new curtains and carpets. A good base for a trip to Connemara. Hope to stay again.

A lovely family run hotel in the rural and rustic retreat of Connemara. We had a very pleasant stay here albeit very short. The breakfast was just what the doctor ordered after partaking in the local hospitality the night before! was only staying the one night but on my experience would certainly recommend the place.

Larry scored 3 / 5 on 05/10/2015

As stated this is a small family run hotel. Rooms a little small although very clean and comfortable. Staff extremely pleasant. Lovely breakfast. Excellent base for exploration of south Connamara. Although we thought the restaurant prices a little high for the fare available we would stay there again.

This hotel is the worst hotel I have stayed in throughout Ireland. I take four to five small breaks a year in Ireland visiting various places and hotels. The Carna Bay Hotel was filthy and had a constant stench in the hallways and in particular dining room and bar. The food had a lot to be desired, with old fashion menu but regardless of that, the food was not cooked properly. We had booked in for three nights but left the hotel after the second night. I would not be recommending Carna Bay Hotel to anyone.

Roisin scored 4 / 5 on 25/05/2015

The welcome was warm and friendly our rooms were of a high standard with all you needed. If i was to find fault i would say the bar area needs painting the doors were very shabby and the whole room or rather two rooms needed painting and sorting. The food was brilliant our evening meal was just delicious and the breakfast all you could ask for. Our visitors enjoyed it and I hope next year my husband and i will go back for a two or three night break.

Nice clean, friendly family run business. Food was super and a reasonable price. Decor is a bit dated but it's quite reasonable to stay here. We got booked on a bank holiday for €39 b&b which was good value. The place is spotless, and very welcoming. Wifi available, will definately be back for a visit in the near future.

Anna scored 2 / 5 on 29/08/2013

Very disappointed on arrival to see how old and dingy this hotel was. Was expecting something more up-to-date.its not that scenic an area either much better scenery to be found a short drive away. Having said that I got a wonderful nights sleep in the hotel as the area is so quiet. Terrible old mattress on the bed also and the kettle was so brown inside. It can be used as a base for exploring Connemara but I wouldn't recommend it as first choice! Staff were excellent very friendly and the food was brilliant no complaints there. Just the overall look of the hotel and rooms, badly in need of a makeover. Would definitely not book this hotel again or recommend it either.

Stayed in the hotel for three nights. Remote and beautiful. No sea views though which was disappointing as this was one of the reasons i had booked. Beautiful beaches nearby though. Fabulous scenery and many beautiful places to visit. Hotel is on the shabby side, but very clean with lots of hot water. The food was great.,We toured a lot and it served the best fish dishes we found, hake, crab, black sole etc. Would recommend for a real get a way from it all holdiay. Very relaxing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The negatives were very minimal comapred to the many positves.

Harry scored 1 / 5 on 31/10/2012

This has to have been one of the least pleasant hotels I've stayed in for a long time. It's difficult to image how any of the rooms at the front of the hotel could have a "scenic view" as they all over look the car park, the road and the houses opposite. I can't speak for the rooms at the rear of the hotel as I didn't see these. The hotel is basically shabby compared to the hotels I've stayed in recently. The carpets are old, the paint work is scuffed and the place has an old smell to it. We only ate in the bar once because the meal we were served was very poor. I had a BLT with no lettuce; but 3 layers of soggy toast. My wife's open salmon sandwich was served on a brown scone instead of bread. The cooked breakfast was also of poor quality with sausages that just tasted of salt and nothing more. The room itself was basically clean if you ignored the run down state of the furniture. There were only 3 TV channels available, none of them Irish (unless you count UTV), Down in the bar they were showing RTE; but this was not available in the room. The shower ran at a reasonable volume and temperature; but then would switch to scalding hot with no warning. The hotel description said free wifi - it's free for 10 minutes a day after which you have to pay for it.

Although the hotel was very isolated, for anyone wishing to have a quiet break it was wonderful. The hotel itself was very nice 4 out of 5. The food was excellent 5 out of 5. The staff were warm and friendly 5 out of 5, overall 4.75 out of 5. Note it may not be everyone up of tea in terms of the isolation. And as for value from lidl Brilliant.

We had a great mid week break at the Carna Bay Hotel. The staff were fantastic and very kind and polite the food was 10 out of 10 and we really enjoyed it. We will most certainly return there in the future. The Hotel is perfect for exploring the west of Ireland Niall and Karen Cork, Ireland.

This hotel really surprised me. When I arrived in the tiny village in Conemara I didn't expect so much choice on the menu or such nice surroundings. The hotel was lovely the food was great. The staff were lovely most helpful. The entertainment in the bar was fantastic. A perfect place to stay

My mother and I have just enjoyed a two day break at the Carna Bay Hotel which was traditional and comfortable - the staff were very friendly, helpful and courteous and most were local which made the experience even more authentic. The food was plentiful and traditional. I had an excellent plaice stuffed with salmon and king prawns.Other guests were making appreciative comments about their food. Sadly my mothers 'roast of the day' - pork was unpalatable, she was offered an alternative but declined. When checking out we were reimbursed for the main course which was much appreciated. Would recommend for a peaceful break in the heart of beautiful Connemara.

Suzi scored 5 / 5 on 06/07/2011

the hotel was warm and welcoming. our room was lovely and clean. the bar was too dark. the food and menu needs to be updated, although the service was very friendly you did feel that you were left too long between courses. breakfast was far better in a very light and airy room, the service was very friendly.

We had a lovely time at the Carna Bay Hotel last weekend, 4th - 6th June. Granny, Mom and two teenage children. It's a lovely homely hotel, the staff were very courteous and helpful and the food was delicious. The hotel is close to two fabulous sandy beaches and the locals are very friendly too. If you want a quiet break away from it all, this place is for you. It's perfect for touring around beautiful connemara, the scenery is something else! As it was a Lidl break, it was also very reasonable and great value for money!!

We spent one night here recently. The staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful which makes a stay so much more enjoyable. The food was excellent and plentiful. The surrounding area is spectacular. The accommodation is basic but clean. I will be returning and would definitely recommend the hotel to friends and family. Overall it was very good value for money.

William scored 4 / 5 on 19/11/2010

Visited the Carna Bay Hotel on the 12th Nov. for two nights. Got there between 8pm and 9pm. Given a very warm welcome by Mary and met her son Michael the following morning. Hotel not very busy this time of year but given the full bar menu to choose from as the restaurant was not open . Food was really good and the amount left nothing wanting. Staff were very helpfull and were given everything requested. There are, from time to time, items of interest which do not appear obvious by staff which need attention unless they were staying in the room and these have been conveyed to the management. These were minor. An example of two is the difficulty in locking the bedroom door from the inside. Another is a blocked shower rose head which would not become apparant unless you were a guest. None the less I would recomend this hotel and I would have no hesitation in returning. Lidl breaks speaks for themselves. Its a no brainer. Really good.

I thought the hoiel was very comfortable. the staff were the freidliest staff I have ever met in any hotel. They could not have done more for me or my husband. kudos to colum in the Bar and Heidi and to the ladies that made breakfast!. The overall experience was great value for money. I woul d definitely recommend the Carna Bay Hotel for anyone who wants to get away from everything. Catherine & Peter Mooney Rahtfarnham Dublin 16

I spent a faboulus weekend in the Carna Bay Hotel recently. The atmosphere was really warm and friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable and I got the impression if I'd requested anything, anything at all, the management would have done all in their power to comply. Definately recommend this hotek. Nuala (Co Wicklow)

Dolores scored 2 / 5 on 26/08/2010

We found the staff very helpful and pleasant. The hotel overall was reasonably satisfactory. Breakfast had a great selection. Unfortunately there is nothing to do in the evening. Once you get back in the evening there is only tv. We booked for 3 nights and would suggest one would be enough. LIDL Breaks are fantastic and we have suggested them to a number of friends. Some of them have booked weekend breaks already.
