Kinnitty Castle Hotel is close to the picturesque village of Kinnitty, set beautifully against a backdrop of the Slieve Bloom Mountains and is in Irelands only designated Environment Park. The Castle has a long and turbulent history. Dating originally from 1209 the Castle was destroyed and rebuilt not once but twice and yet it retains character and oozes charm. The castle even has its own ghost, a monk no less!

Travel Description : The Hotel is located in Kinnitty.
Area Description : Kinnitty Castle Hotel is a gothic revival Castle located at the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in County Offaly, in the heart of Ireland. The Castle has had a long and turbulent history. The first Castle at Kinnitty was destroyed in 1209 and was later rebuilt by the Norman's in 1213. Later the Normans were driven out by the powerful Gaelic clan, the O Carrolls of Ely.
great place and value for money with the right website. staff were great and rooms were as you'd expect for the location, ancient. enjoyed the stay tremendously and would go again. monk was on a go slow when I stayed by the way, cut backs everywhere. again if you want the castle feeling by all means go. an experience I will try again. o by the way the food was great but expensive as expected. try the bar food if not on a romantic break like my self, looked good. again staff friendly and chatty.
18th-20th July 2014. From the moment we arrived, Kinnitty Castle lived up to our expectations. Quick and efficient check-in and we were shown to our rooms in the Abbey Court wing. Room was smallish but it was what you would expect, had everything you needed. The only thing I would say is that there is no sound proofing at all, sounds as if the people in the next room were in the same room as you. The staff were so nice, especially the barman in the Library Bar and the night porter on the Sat night. Staff couldnt have been more helpful or informative about the history of the Castle. We were encouraged to look around the Castle and night time and explore. If you stay, make sure you go up the hidden creaky stairs to the attic to where The Geraldine Suite is, very athmospheric. We didnt eat in the restaurant but we did eat both night in the LIbrary Bar and the food was delicious. Can highly recommend the steak, cooked to perfection. Overall a very relaxing few days in a wonderful authentic Castle with great staff, great atmospher, great food and of course the Monk who didnt put in an appearance during our stay, maybe next time...........
This is an old Castle and the decor reflects that, old world, rustic, rooms are a good size, staff were very friendly and helpful, food was very good, very relaxed atmosphere in lovely surroundings, had a very enjoyable stay.
Stayed in Kinnity for a wedding last weekend and enjoyed it emmensely. Our room was a bit on the small side but the bath made up for it... huge!!! One thing I would suggest would be bigger TV's in the rooms. Otherewise all was great, food super, staff very attentive and helpful
We had a wonderful stay in Kinnity Castle. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay. The castle is beautiful, the food was georgous with plentu of varity. There is a lot of history with the Castle and grounds. All in all this was a great visit and we will be back to Kinnity Castle again and again. Shirley and John Kelly, Dublin
Attended a wedding in kinnitty castle recently. . Food and service top class.. Very friendly staff.. Home away from home.. Will definitely see you all again soon... Thanks for a lovely stay...
Kelly family wexford we stayed for two nights 30th, 31st mar 2014.Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, staff are major asset to the castle. Decor does need some attention but does not take away from the experience of staying in the castle. We will definitely be staying again.
I am really sorry to say that I was very disappointed with Kinnitty Castle when I stayed there a few weeks ago. To be honest I found the Castle extremely dirty:some of the carpets looked like they hadn't been cleaned since medieval times, some of the cabinets along the walk ways were falling asunder, there were broken panes of glass in door throughout and then there were piles of toilet rolls stuffed into corners etc etc. When we arrived there were glasses strewn around the front of the hotel that were left by wedding guests the day before and they were still there when we left a day later! The bed was extremely uncomfortable and in our room (Inchquinn) there was an awful smell of fuel! Whilst the courtyard was very picturesque the front of the castle looked grim at best and when you looked around you could see that several windows were boarded up etc. We took a wander around and the banquet hall smelled of damp and must and was covered in a layer of dust. Really and truly I thought the place needed a good scrub and a massive injection of funds. I had originally booked two stays at the hotel but after the first visit I cancelled the other stay. I am truly sorry but even if you paid me I wouldn't stay there again!
Im sorry to say that I was really disappointed with Kinnitty Castle. Whilst the hotel has the potential to be a really unique, and in fact has some really beautiful areas (the Courtyard) my overwhelming impression was that it was filthy. There were doorways with broken glass, furniture that was positively disintegrating, carpets and rugs that looked like they hadn't been hoovered in hundreds of years, reams of toilet paper left in corners, glasses strewn around the place (there were some on the ground in front of the hotel when we arrived and they were still there when we left). And to top it off the bed was really uncomfortable and the room smelled of oil or some sort of fuel which I can only presume was related to the heating system. I think its safe to say that I won't be back.
Excellent nights stay food was lovely, you could wonder around, very informal, breakfast lovely. Would stay again
A fantastic hotel and lovely staff
We were upgraded to a suite as there was a wedding on that evening. Stunning room, great food and an unbelievable rate through this site. We left thoroughly pleased and would definitely return to this hotel.
Couldn't fault it for anything. From the staff, the food and the room it was all amazing. Will definitely be going back but for longer this time.
me and the wife stayed for 3 days frm the 15th - 18th ov july ,the hotel is great the staff was very friendly the food was fab compliments to the chef, grt big thnk u 2 every 1 there 4 makin our stay so grt. wud recommend this 2 any1. will deffo b goin bk again. thnks alan & julie sherlock
well, we certainly enjoyed our stay there that we are already planning to go back again. the mattresses may need some updating but not something that an extra blanket cannot fix, the staff are very accommodating (special mention to the sli dala and library bar staff ann and eimear and one of the cleaning ladies who told us some of the stories about the castle but i am afraid i didn't get her name), the rooms especially the state rooms stunning and spacious, the food delicious (and i mean scrumptious), ancient relics/antiques all around the castle, the forest and slieve bloom mountain near the premises (and yes, they truly are worth a trek) and hallways and a dungeon worth a visit at night. and at a rate that is quite affordable even during recession :)
Hotel was lovely, staff were exceptionally nice and friendly, highly recommend a stay there.
My wife and I arrived on Sunday 26th May'13. Having contacted the hotel the night prior to our arrival, we were advised that our room would be available from 3pm onwards. We were kept waiting for two hours before we were escorted to a room purporting to be a bedroom. The bedroom was located some distance from the reception area, adjacent to a courtyard. It was a relatively small, very dark, depressing room, with a small window and absolutely no view in what looked like a converted stable. It had no fridge, broken radio and damaged sockets. We could not regulate the radiator in the bathroom. The metal framed bed was extremely uncomfortable, inferior mattress. We slept poorly. We were unable to close the wardrobe door, also curtains were hanging off the rail. The table in the Library bar we used was not very clean, quite sticky. Furniture in bar also shabby. Overall the hotel did not appear to be very clean, got a sense that the place was in decline. Staff were very friendly, food was ok. The major disappointment was the bedroom. The website was totally misleading, This horrific bedroom (I-Kerrin) was NOT advertised on their website. Regrettably, based on our experience we could not recommend this hotel to any potential customer.
A very enjoyable stay here for a birthday gathering of my family. The staff could not be faulted. Very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the dust was thick in our bedroom and not just a day or two old either. Very pleasant stay but just lacking attention to detail in basic housekeeping. The menu read well but was maybe not executed to its fullest standard.
Hotel was ok . Should be a 3 star rating though . Room needs some serious overhauling furniture and fixings . Breakfast as expected . Woken every morning just after 6 am by delivery drivers reversing horns . Staff pleasant enough .
couldn't have been better, from the staff to the food all set in such a beautiful location! can't wait to go back!
This was our first time staying here but it wont be our last. From the time we drove up the avenue til the time we left there were nothing but memorable moments. The medieval atmosphere, the exquisite food and drink, spacious and comfortable cosy bedroom and most importantly the friendly and accommodating staff all added to a memorable and unique experience. Husbands get booking. You will be in credit with the wife for ages!!!!
Barbara : Feb 2013- Stayed 1 nite, we were upgraded to the Secret Suite ( without asking ! ) - fantastic room with a huge boat shaped bed. Our 3rd time to stay in Kinnitty and as always loved it. We booked through Lidl and it was excellent value - you won't get any cheaper. Go to the nearby village for a drink in the 2 pubs the Slieve Bloom and the Giltrap ( my favourite ). Locals are very friendly & the craic is mighty. Breakfast wasn't that great for me but we did leave it 'til the deadline time to go down. We will definitely be back & I would highly recommend it to anyone , a real treat.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Accommodation was beautiful, The food excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the forest walks behind the castle. Loved the open fire in the Library bar.
jan 2013 had lovely 2 night stay here , staff were great , great walks , castle itself very olde world charm , few cobwebs here and there only added to i,t will definitely go back , Annette , Meath
Kinnity Castle actually exceeded my expectations!!! Spent one night there, which was actually too short but so enjoyable. The rooms were quaint and quirky, with so many nooks and interesting features. The meal we had in the resturant was excellent. Each member of staff could not have been nicer. The Dungeon Bar provided super entertainment with a really young talented trad group. Breakfast the following morning was so tasty and again the staff could'nt do enough for us. After a really enjoyable walk along the river, on the castle grounds, we checked out but will most CERTAINLY be back!
Just back from a break in Kinnitty Castle. Overall the stay was lovely - beautiful hotel in very pretty surrounds. The building is magnificant and the rooms full of character. The forest walks are fantastic. There were however a few issues. We were staying with our 4 month old daughter and the room was extremely small. There was a lot of noise from the upstairs rooms which kept us awake. Also the room wasn't that clean (cobwebs, un-vacumed floor, limescale in kettle so we couldn't make tea in the room). The food in the bar wasn't great. However the staff were lovely, especially in the library bar - they went out of their way to accomodate us.
Here's a review on our stay at Kinitty Castle from the weekend (Friday and Saturday) 25th and 26th January 2013. The castle looks great from outside and the history of the place is fascinating. The grounds looked inviting upon arrival. First lets get the bad out of the way. The room was cool (cold isn't really fair as it was a rom in a castle in late January) but the radiator had a leak which was 'repaired' by a towel on the ground below it. We complained that it was cool in the room and we were given a portable heater which helped a lot. The bath is in the middle of the room and was raised a couple of centimeteres on bathroom tiles, so the bath moved if you were having a shower. The shower required a good bit of patience with balancing the right amount of cold water with piping hot water in order to get a comfortable temperature. The bedroom needed a bit more than a good lick of paint as it had cracks along the ceiling etc. Still its an old castle so I suppose it needs regular up keep which by the way is the problem. The bank took over the Estate from the Ryan family (a former wealthy family I guess?) and the banks are not spending a penny on repairs! Which is why I would be horrified if I had paid the full 169 Euro per night as is the norm price. I paid 59 euro per night and think the saturday was slightly more. So this is a lidl deal and I guess its going to be cheaper and probably for a reason. This place would have been bustling in the tiger era. Now its the bargain basement. Now the bad stuff is out the way there really is some good stuff, hope the bad didn't put you off. First off for the good is that the staff are really really friendly and helpful. Any hotel/stay with bad staff is a deal breaker for me. But Kinnitty can be proud that even though the bankers own it they haven't taken away the friendlyness. Also the dungeon bar area is pretty good too when you want a drink. The Castle is fairly well decorated with some nice painting (not so sure about the deer heads though) and is kept clean especially in areas where it matters, servery area etc. Now the best part of the stay was the meals. The breakfast was lovely (Full Irish) and we paid for an evening meal which was really really lovely. Also the grounds around the castle and the areas its located make it worth the while (just not when it rains). If you love hiking and doing trails then there is plenty to do in the local area and even on the grounds of the Castle. So in the end I would love to give it 4.5 stars but have to be fair and give it 3 as the banks are not putting the money into the place where it needs it. The staff as well as the food would get a 4.5 out of 5 if there was a seperate rating section for hospitality so very well done in that area!
The double room I booked for my boyfriend and I in Kinnity Castle was like Fawlty Towers. The wall was damp, the paint was falling off the ceilings, the radiator leaked, we had to get a heater in to the room to heat it up. The receptionists were very nice and helpful and the meals were delicious. However, the bedroom was not worth the money, you could tell that it was owned by the banks and nothing was done to the rooms. I would not reccomend any person to stay here!
interesting place, staff very friendly and helpful and the location was lovely. the room was cold on arrival due to the window being open(JAN 2013) and never completely warmed up.the bath water ran cool but the shower was good. Breakfast was excellent ,food and service.
We had a lovely one year anniversary stay for two nights here. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and the library bar was a fantastic spot to sit down in front of an open fire, have a pint, and read a book. Some extra cleaning would bump them up to 5 stars from me. There some dead flies littered around the windows and some cobwebs around the room. It was still a fantastic spot to stay and I would recommend it to anyone.
We had a lovely time at Kinnitty Castle upgraded to the Butler Suite. The suite had a four poster bed and large bathroom with roll top bath. The castle is beautiful, staff are wonderful and the food is delicious. However, I was disappointed with a couple of things, the bed mattress in the Butler Suite is very uncomfortable and the bed creaks loudly at every slight movement so not the peaceful nights sleep i was looking forward to. The building in general could do with a deep clean, the windows in the Butler Suite are filthy. It also would have been nice to have the fires lit in the library bar and dining room as it was quite cold.
We stayed 2 nights here and enjoyed it immensely. We had just come from 3 nights at the Electric Picnic and this was a perfect place to chill out and relax after that! The rooms are are fabulous with traditional furnishings. The staff could not be more helpful and the food was superb. There are so many fine walks in the vicinity It is a perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries. We are looking forward to our next visit already!
Everything you could wish for. Four poster bed, huge bathroom with free standing bath, the air practically hums with gothic romance. Dinner was superb. The only complaint would be that the scrambled eggs at breakfast were microwaved...something I would not have expected in this otherwise excellent hotel.
Staff friendly and helpful, room was fine and clean, breakfast was excellent. Will be back again for sure.
Lovely staff and lovely peaceful surroundings - come here if you want to chill out away from the hustle and bustle. The food in the restaurant was great also. The accommodation could do with some TLC - parts of the hotel smelled strongly of must. But I would return.
Medieval 'charm' but do not book if you want rest and comfortable relaxation. Rentokill box in the room! Staff adequate but lacking that little 'extra'. Food great. Overall not a good experience that cost almost €400 for two nights B&B plus 1 dinner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From start to finish this three night break was wonderful! Food excellent both restaurant and bar food. Our room was gorgeous, bathroom spotless and lovely white fluffy towels! We are into walking so this was a perfect base so some really lovely hikes. Staff were so pleasant. Kinnity Castle was the nightlight of our holiday and we hope to plan an Autumn or Winter break there too.
A real treat! We stayed one night and were sorry to be leaving the next day-we will definitely be back. All the staff we met were attentive and welcoming without being intrusive and the castle itself is a real gem. Beautiful big old-style rooms and lots of corridors and staircases for exploring. The food in the restaurant is exceptional-one of the nicest meals I have ever eaten though I felt the wine list was limited.Perfect Bailey's coffees-almost impossible to get anywhere! If you're looking for a peaceful and restful place to stay this is it. The castle is in the middle of nowhere so there's no passing customers-everyone there is staying there which makes it more personal and private. It's not a place for large groups so if you're looking for a peaceful and restful break I would highly recommend a stay here.
Booked this for my niece and sister as my niece was over from America and had never seen a real castle. They both came back with great reports and loved it, had a great time. They said the food was terrific and hotel bedroom was really nice, two giant four poster beds. Based on their reports and experience I would definitely recommend it!
Had a great time in Kinnity Castle. The staff are great and totally committed to what they do. The food is delicious, you get a sense of adventure both within and outside the castle The walking trails and views from them are breathtaking Highly recommend kinnitty, exellent value for money.
Fantastic hotel when you want to get away from it all and escape back in time, we have been staying in Kinnitty Castle since 1996 and never ceased to be amazed with the decor , atmmosphere and excellent service from the friendly staff. Will definitelly be back again this year at the great price available with Lidl Breaks
enjoyed stay in kinnity castle very verry much. everythinf excellent in every way.
We had a fantastic 2 night break in Kinnitty Castle What a hidden treasure Friendly and very nice staff and the food in the restaurant was wonderful
We had a wonderful short break in Kinnitty Castle June 2012. The whole atmosphere was fantastic, the rooms really good standard and the staff friendly and helpful. Our meal was first class and service bery good too, I would return again as it was great value and a really nice experience.
We loved our recent stay in Kinnitty Castle. The staff were lovely and the food great. We were upgraded to a suite which was fantastic. The standard rooms are a bit small but the suites are fabulous. As it was mid week the Cellar Bar was not in use but it looked like a great place to have a party and the Courtyard with attached function hall would be perfect for a wedding. A real castle with a great atmosphere but with all the modern comforts. Would love to go back soon.
Spent one night in one of the suites. Cannot praise the staff enough . Food is superb. If you are looking for modern comfort then this is not for you, if you are looking for atmosphere , good food , and excellent staff book away.
Kinnitty Castle was absolutely amazing! The staff were v friendly, and even upgraded my parents room to a suite as I told them we were there to celebrate my dads 60th. We had lunch in the library bar and dinner in the restaurant and the food was AMAZING in both. The Dungeon bar was fab and was made even better by the music. We had the loveliest stay there and will definitely be back!
Really enjoyed our stay. Dinner setting was top class, food lovely and rooms really excellent. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back.
A truly wonderful hotel. We enjoyed every moment of our stay. Nothing to criticise. The room was beautiful, the food delicious and the staff warm and helpful. In fact the room was also lovely and warm which we weren't really expecting in such an old castle. We really felt like we were staying in a castle with abundant history and not just an ordinary hotel. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to explore every nook and cranny. In the grounds behind the castle if you go for a walk there were some dilapidated buildings and the surrounds are not as manicured as other hotel grounds but that didn't in any way detract from our stay. Also plenty to visit in the surrounding areas. Would love to go back some day!
Lovely Hotel ,medieval atmosphere also the food is very good and staff very helpful, we will be back 5 stars
Review by Lorraine. Stayed in Kinnitty Castle on Paddy's weekend. I really enjoyed my stay because I like old buildings. The room was fine and big, and I got to sleep in a four poster bed. The staff were very helpful, and the service was very good. I enjoyed the food, and the lovely walks surrounding the castle. The only downside to the trip was the dungeon bar, which I did not like. Yes I would definitely visit Kinnitty Castle again!
We had a great break in Kinnity Castle recently. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was very good and the bed comfortable. However, we had to climb a very steep stairs to get to our room on the top floor which would be difficult for anyone older or with a disability. The other disadvantage was that the only place to sit was in the bar which was busy. The downstairs cellar bar was very dark and not very welcoming. However, the grounds were lovely. Ann
Very pleasant stay, staff very helpfull and friendly. Excellent cuisine Dog friendly with stables available, lovely walks for humans and dogs Will definately return
Very enjoyable stay. Staff were very helpful and friendly, food in both bar and restaurant was really good and great value, we were very happy with our room, we stayed in the ballybritt room. Only complaint was you could here everything in the room above, even when they were talking you could hear word for word as if they were in our room with us. Other then that we loved it. Great atmosphere and a little spooky, we will diffinatly return for a relaxing over night stay again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kinnity Castle. Rooms were not quite what I expected. A bit small but still they were okay. The staff were very helpful and offered us an upgrade for our second night even without us asking, which we took obviously. The food was excellent both in the bar and the restaurant. Very relaxing place to stay with a couple of really nice walks around the castle. All in all a lovely break away.
warm friendly welcome on a cold foggy day, room a big let down though, cramped and bed tiny, afraid to roll over in case I fell into the wee fireplace ! lovely big bath but couldn't regulate shower temp and sink grubby, friendly staff in the lounge but fireplace area let down by worn and tatty leather furniture, best thing was the food - amazing!! fabulous dinner and cooked breakfast.
excellent hotel very relaxing place to stay good food and friendly staff. Only complaint is the bed in the room was small even though looking into other rooms it seemed to be the exception as the other beds we saw were very large. Would recoomend it to anyone.
We had a lovely time - the food was good, the welcome was warm and the kids absolutely loved it !!!
Had a great break here - Very good value for money through Lidl, if we had been paying full rates, we would have been disappointed. Overall appearance of the hotel needs refurbishment. Not talking about spending much money, just general cleaning. They have two urns at the entrance both could look much better after being power hosed and have a few flowers added. Outside on the left-hand of the entrance the Christmas trees were just dumped, considering they have open fires- it just seem like a waste! I have nothing but praise for the staff who were both courteous and friendly. Food not Michelin star but very well cooked and presented. One slight hiccup - they did not have our booking on arrival but did find a room for us. Had we being checking in on the Saturday night it would have caused a major problem as they were fully booked. Overall experience 7 out of 10
Stayed friday 6th January Had a brillent night . Food in restaurant was lovely what you would expect in a four star establishment . The Staff were helpful friendly and made the evening enjoyable. bedroom was clean and quaint. Would recommend this hotel with no hesitation it was a step back in time in a really nice way. Breakfeast was freshly made. will remember to bring walking shoes in future the countryside is lovely.
We recently stayed at Kinnitty for one night and found the castle to be full of character and charm both inside and out. The hotel was fully booked during our stay so we found the reception desk to be under staffed with just one person attempting to meet and greet, check in, answer the phones and show people to their rooms. Our room was lovely, perfectly clean, huge bed and gorgeous bathroom. Our room ( O Ryan) didnt have a tv but this didnt bother us. We had a leisurely two course meal in the Sli Dala which was delicious and the staff were very good. The receptionist kindly provided a jug of ice water upon request to take to our room upon retiring. We had breakfast in our room the next morning which was delivered hot and on time and was very tasty indeed. Overall, a pleasant stay.
Stayed in Kinnity with my partner on Monday Dec 5th and we both had a lovely time. Staff were totally amazing and could not have been more pleasant and accomodating. We were automatically upgraded to a suite on arrival at no extra charge as castle was not busy. We had dinner from restaurant and the staff kindly let us eat that in bar rather than sit in dining room on our own, the food was very very good. We got breakfast in our suite next morning which was also very good. Our only negative comment would be that the bar beside dining room is way too bright and because of that there is a cold atmosphere in there even with the fire lit, felt it would be much cosier in there if lights could be dimmed and candles lit on tables. We would definately return to Kinnity and have booked my parents into Kinnity in new year and am hoping that they enjoy experience as mush as we did.
A lovely relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. Staff very helpful & friendly. Food fabulous.Themed rooms very well done.Would definitely recommend this as a fantastic get away. Star rating 5
The perfect mid week treat. Impressive building, amazing decor, warm cosy atmosphere, friendly helpful staff & great food beautifully presented. Overall a memorable experience, one to be repeated.
Food was good, the Castle is very tired looking, needs a good injection of money to bring it to it's former glory. However, on the positive side new management was recently put in place. Staff very helpful.
Absolutely outstanding! Castle is splendid.Food first class, we had 3 course meal from set menu for %u20AC35. Live music in bar. Drinks very reasonably priced. Hotel staff go out of their way to make your stay a welcome and enjoyable experience. Really recommend a stay in Kinnitty Castle. Lidl break outstanding value!
picturesque accomodation for little money, definitely would recommend
Hi my parents enjoyed the stay they just felt the gardens needed to be tidied up as they dod some of the walks. The food was lovely and the room was typical of an old castle which they enjoyed Regards Mary
The castle is beautiful and the scenery around it was lovely. A lovely romantic break we went last year with our two children aged 3 and 9 at the time we had a lovely room then with a giant four poster bed for us all the kids loved it , the food is great and this time there was 3 guys jamming in the libary bar untill 8pm then about 10pm there was traditional music in the Dungion bar so you can enjoy music or have a quiet drink and chat in the libary bar there is lovely walks and they have horses if you want to ride. The rooms in the castle are amazing it is like going back in time 5 stars excellent thank you. Laura Kenny
Hi Myself and my husband went for the weekend,a most beautiful place to stay.Staff were really nice but food left a lot to be desired.I know this time of the year the places are all not up and running as in the summer time but because of the location food is really important all in all a very nice experience.
had a great say at kinnitty with my family. the staff were so friendly and helpful. The grounds are fantastic and the forest walk is beautiful. The room decor was charming.its a great alternative relaxing holiday.I would highly recommend kinnitty for the alternative night away. the entertainment was a night to remember in the dungeon bar. i stayed in the castle a few years ago and we paid over 250 for a night. What a bargain now. The only down fall to this hotel in the food. the selection and quality of food in the restaurant was poor and the a bit pricey . but that wouldn't put us off goin back. thanks for a great night.
The stay at the castle was very good. No problems encountered. We booked b & b and the breakfast was really quite substantial. We ate bar food and it was very good. Excellent value for money. The library bar was nice and was busy on the Saturday due to the match being on. The drinks at the bar were quite reasonably priced and that was good to know that we were not rippeed off. The rooms were huge and what you would expect in a castle. No t.v. but not a huge problem Would love to return there again. Well done LIDL its the break of the future and long may it last. Thanks, Spring in my step, Lucan, Co. Dublin.
we really enjoyed our stay. the staff were very nice, friendly. rooms grand, food grand. there was a traditional music session in the dungeon bar by a local talented family group of 4 sisters who were just great! The hotel is old and a bit damp but the heat was on full pelt to counter act this. It really was a most enjoyable break and would recommend it provided the afore-mentioned mustiness would not bother you.
This was our third time back to the castle as we really love the place however was a little dissappointed about our stay this time. We where being charged twice for our bill that we had settled up the night before and terrible mix up in the restaurant re the package of the 2 course meal as the monks kitchen was closed it was very embarrasing. I had treated the other people to the stay and the castle as a present but we were continusly referred to as the Lidl deal. We also got a call at 12.07 to vacate our hotel room when we were heading out the door. I really love the castle but feel it has gone down hill since our first stay, Some of the staff could take a course in hospitatility skills and on the other hand other really try and go out of their way. Over all the deal was great value for money its just a pity they kept shoving it in your face.
Had an amazing time in an amazing place. Great value for money. only one drawback, there was a set menu for Lidl guests and I felt the selection was very poor, food was excellent but not enough of a choice. Regards, Susan Clegg
Great place for a peaceful break away, stunning room and very nice staff!
the staff had a lot to desire, we were almost overcharged by 40euro which caused us great distress, when we spoke to the manager she was tatally unsympathetic and stood up for her staff and we felt like we had to explain ourselves for their mistake!!! all the tables in the dining hall are wobbly so again our drinks almost spilled and the lit candle on the table was a fire hazzard, be careful with the 2 course meal deal, if you order chips instead of potatoes its classed as extra, the castle itself is beautiful but needs to be updated as the stairs is not good for older people, there is no lifts and the flight to the top is a killer!!
fantastic cant wait to go back
Enjoyed a wonderful break at Kinnity Castle - excellent facilities, excellent staff. Beautiful place to stay
Good Morning, We had a lovely time and thought the Hotel was beautiful. We were delighted wwith our room and the staff were very helpful. I woud give it four stars. We had our meal in the Library, which again was lovely, the only slight disappointment was the menu was not suitable for Coelics. The Starter was fine, as was the dessert, but the main course which while tasty was , just plain chicken and chips.I had made a note on my booking, which i think was over looked, which was a pity. But all in all we had a great time, it is a lovely hotel, brilliant value and we will certainly reccommed it.
Our stay was brilliant and excellent value. The staff were very helpful, the 'bar food' was fantastic, I cannot say enough about it. We will certainly be going again...........................absolute value for money.
-Booked a night in the castle for my boyfriend to celebrate being 10 years together and was very excited because he loves castles! Arrived in Kinnity and decided to go for something to eat in the village first but there was nowhere to go to eat so had lunch in the castle itself. The castle is amazing to look at and we took a drive nearby where there are lots of lovely forest walks and the slieve bloom mountains are fabulous. If you are into the outdoors the forests are great. We did go on a drive called the Slieve Bloom Village Drive which doesn't really take you anywhere in particular, we just kept following the signs and in the end gave up and went a different way!! Lunch in the castle was lovely and we had it in the library bar. I had two disappointments with Kinnity castle, and I am not fussy by any means! Just a 33 year old looking for nice food and a nice atmosphere. Firstly there were two choices for the meal, either in the expensive restaurant which was not 30euros per person which the website states or Monks Restaurant (which Paulo Tullo Reviewed) Decided to go with Monks as it was cheapest, a buffet for 20 euros per person. The food was fine but the choice was non-existant, only one dessert and would have preferred waitress service, there was supposed to be traditional irish music in the bar but there wasn't which again was disappointing. Overall, it was a nice experience to stay in a castle for the night, breakfast next day was very nice but there was a huge queue of people waiting to go in and we had to have it in the bar and staff were flying round the place. They need to sort out meal options as this is usually what you look forward to when going away. Also, the receptionist never asked if we enjoyed our stay when we were leaving.
Stayed on Saturday night March 5th 2011.Kinnitty Castle is a truly wonderful place to stay.We enjoyed everything about it.The staff are fantastic and so helpful and friendly. The food was superb. We loved the music and fun in Dungeon Bar.On a scale of 1 to 10 Kinnitty Castle deserves a score of 10.Thank you to everybody at Kinnitty for a truly enjoyable stay. Lidl breaks are amazing value for money.
Atmosphere was great, staff very nice and food in the monks kitchen was lovely, but i stayed there about 2 years ago and it has gone down hill on its maintance. The room we had was lovely but ensuite was mouldy and damp. Shower head not very clean and outside castle grounds run down. But lidl breaks offer great value for money and will book another hotel stay soon.
great place great time had food and drink great hope to go back again
Had a great night. Nice room. Everything was good.
Good value for money, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Perfect for a one nights stay. Bit surprised that the food served in the Monks Kitchen was buffet style, but still delicious all the same. Excellent trad music on Sat nights in Dungeon bar, however, they need to crank up the heat as it was brass monkey!!
The castle was lovely we had a wonderful stay and staff were very friendly. We went mid week so there was nothing on enterainment wise. As there was not much to do in the evenings we were a little dissapointed that there were no tv's in the rooms. But apart from that it was well worth the money.
Had the most relaxing weekend in Kinnitty Castle 5star for sure, no mobiles phones working and no TV lots of rain but did not care as it’s a fab place to just sit and chill. Did not get to see the ghost so will have to go back again in the summer. Jane & Steven From Dublin
Easy straight forward hotel booking on the Lidl website, giving good value for money. We had a lovely stay in Kinnitty Castle Hotel. The staff were pleasant, helpful and the food good. I think older children would enjoy the castle too; it would remind you of Harry Potter's School Hogwarts and I don’t remember it having a TV in the bedrooms either. Be aware it is an old castle with a lot of stairs, though this too is part of its character. Well worth a visit.
The stay was amazing and the food was plentiful. Ideal if you want to escape from the hussle and bussle that everyday life presents. Really enjoyed relaxing and playing board games in the library bar. The Grounds are wonderful, plenty of walking and you can even borrow a bike if you fancy a cycle. There are stables with friendly horses too to admire. Advise would be to travel in the day to get there as fog seems to be inevitable here. The only thing I would say on the negative is to book well in advance that morning a table for dinner in the dining room as we were refused even though the restaurant had just opened and no one was even present at the time it was fully booked. There is a buffet all you can eat though downstairs which is nice too but more casual. An ideal break for your parents or close friends. Enjoy!
Great value for money. We got a lovely suite which was lovely and warm. Staff could not have been more helpful. Food was lovely. Would definitely recommend hotel and would visit again. Heard about lidl breaks from my sister. Excellent value. I have told all my work colleagues about the lidl breaks. None of them knew about them and are now checking them out!!
In my opinion the hotel was not ready to receive guests. The hotel bedrooms were freezing. There was no heat on in them when we arrived. When we turned on the radiators only the bathroom one worked and the bedroom one did not. We changed rooms and the radiator in this one worked. Heating should have been on before guests arrived. We did not arrive untill six o clock. Rooms were to cold to shower in that evening. Food was very good. But you had to be up early to get a choice of bread with your breakfast.
Hotel is lovely,,however it was freezing. On arrival at 5PM on Saturday we were shown to rooms with no heating on. You could see your breath in the rooms. Both couples had to change rooms because on the cold and underperforming heating.. We also felt that the Hotel was being run by a Skeleton Staff and despite their best efforts everything was very show and hard to accomplish
Very polite staff whose made us feel welcome. Minor point was description of dinner menu was slighly inaccurate in terms of suaces and trimmings. Overall for us a good value break and would call again, though they could give better directions from Dublin on the website.
Spent 2 days over New Years Eve with my wife. It is a castle in all the true sense, open fires, long rambling halls, great art and off course the resident ghost. Really isolated but the bars & food made up for this. Our room was upgraded upon our arrival with no charge. Our room was old world but could have done with a dusting! Worth a visit and great value with the Lidl offer, would return in the future.
Had a fantastic time, would definately recommend it! Wonderful setting and staff..couldn't fault it.
Wouldnt recommend for anyone with small kids, stairs everywhere had to carry the buggy up and down flights of stairs. Also one of the rooms we booked complaints made on the noise of an ice machine underneath, complained to management and they advised someone else had complained about this before. For this reason people should not be put in these rooms if there is a known problem.
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. WOULD DEFINATELY STAY AGAIN. STAFF REALLY FRIENDLY AND LOADS OF ATMOSPHERE IN THE PLACE. PERFECT FOR A ROMANTIC BREAK. ANYONE INTERESTED IN HISTORY OR ART WOULD ENJOY THIS HOTEL . EVERY ROOM WAS DIFFERENT WITH BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE FURNITURE. NOT FOR KIDS THOUGH. (NO TELLY). LOVED IT. CANT WAIT TO BOOK NEXT LIDL BREAK. GREAT VALUE
Fantastic atmosphere, ideal for short break.. Staff on top of their game, food absolutely top class and our suite was amazing, it really was!! We are going back very soon, Lidl Breaks are so very affordable and this venue punches way above it's weight as far as value for money is concerned.. So thanks to Kelly, Clodagh, Ray and all the team in Kinnity Castle from two very satisfied customers.... Maybe we'll catch a glimpse of one of your ghosts next time!!!!
The castle is very oldly wordly and the setting is idyllic. But it was absolutely freezing when we were there at the bank holiday weekend. There are a few little things that could be done to maintain the castle like sweeping away the cobwebs and washing the floors. On the day that we checked in, the shower didn't work initally and the next morning it didn't work at all. So an attempt to have a bath was made but there was no cold water, only hot! The restaurant starter portions were quite small and it was only when we went to order that we were told that one of the dishes and our wine selection wasn't available - would have be nice to be told this when we were seated. The staff were a little ditzy and flustered but pleasant. There are lots of little nooks and crannies to explore around the building. Overall, our night there was fine but there was something lacking about such a lovely old place!
Kinnitty Castle is a beautiful Hotel in the most picturesque setting ,but when we were shown to our room we were more than disapointed to see dead flys inside the window in the bedroom and even more in the bathroom. We were changed to another room but these type of slip ups should not happen in such a beautiful place.
had a wonderful time staff lovely food exellent would visit again would pass on to friends
Nice hotel with great decor. Good room However instead of an evening meal in the dining room there was only a buffet dinner in the monks kitchen. The tables were dirty and wet in places and no serviettes and we had to ask for them. Meal itself was not fantastic. The bed was very large but matraze was very hard. Room could have done with a bit of dusting. Not sure whether new linen was put on the bed as a paper tissue was found in bed.
We went to Kinnity Castle last week for two nights. absolutely loved it. it was by no means a 5 star, it never claimed to be, but it was clean, comfortable and the staff were just exceptional, nothing was too much bother for them, they were friendly, chatty, but definately not "in your face". The food was very good, thankfully there were no tellys in the rooms. We had a lovely relaxing, peaceful couple of days, excellent value for money. Thanks Lidl!
Place has great potential. It is difficult to give a fair rating as the staff are experiencing changes. It was a nice experience to stay in a castle. Just a pity the dungeon was not open during the week. Maybe next time we will come in on a weekend. Manager is very nice and I wish her all the best.
Great Value! ...Especially when compared with offers for the same hotel on other sites. Hotel was fabulous, grounds amazing. Food was lovely. Great deal for short break in Kinnity Castle.
We stayed for one night in May '10. It is in a beautiful location with beautiful grounds. I agree that the decor could do with a bit of a revamp - which I understand may be difficult to do whilst maintaining the original features. Unfortunately the courtyard appeared to be locked up when we were there and the dungeon bar was not open. I felt that because the place was not full, the guests there were not getting the full experience. The dinner was O.K. Not really 4 star standards (my husband has to send back his meat dish which was off - they did offer another choice). Staff were pleasant. I also agree that there could be T.V.'s in the bedrooms. I could have done with curtains on the bathroom windows too! Overall we had a pleasant stay. As we got the room on a special price, I feel I may have got my moneys worth. I would not pay full price for what we did recieve and I probably would have complained if I had have been paying full whack! I think the place has so much potential but to live up to the 4 stars, would need to polish up a bit.
we had a fabulous night in a historic room.tapestries on walls, huge four poster bed etc. we enjoyed lunch in the library bar on arrival followed by a few drinks and traditional music in the dungeon bar. dinner that night was first class,as was breakfast.the staff were very helpful at all times.
We stayed one night in May 2010. It was wonderful, even if there were very few people staying at the hotel. The entire ambience was terrific, and I would heartily recommend Kittintty Castle as a place to stay. It is a little isolated ( and all the better for that), with delightful walks, and a bar to enjoy a glass of something while soaking-up the atmosphere. A definite must. Pat Moriarty
Really enjoyed my one night stay at the castle. It was a great opportunity to relax and unwind in it's magnificent surroundings. Did think it could do with a litte re-vamping, but apart from that, all the staff from reception to the waitressing staff were very friendly and professional. Ideal hotel for couples but not families with children. (No TV's in rooms). All said and done, I would return to the castle in the winter months when all those beautiful fireplaces would be burning brightly. PS: Even the ghosts are friendly, especially the one that lives in the Geraldine Suite.
Had a nice stay but was expecting perhaps, a little something more......that said, would go back as there is something very appealing about the place. Staff are lovely, especially the lady that served us in the dining room. Made us feel very welcome. Our room....Geraldine ! certainly was quaint but had a great nights sleep, I couldn't fault it but my husband found it a tad claustrophobic as it was located in what I could only describe as the attic space. There are no t.v's in the bedrooms! I really liked this but perhaps it may not appeal to everyones taste. We were troubled by no ghost ( just as well ) and by all accounts, I look forward to my repeat visit.
The castle is as you would expect it to be though the decor is a little tired and could do with a bit of a revamp, the staff and food was excellent. The only down side is the hotel policy not to have T.V's in the bedrooms, which I think would be a major problem if you were taking children with you.
